Android Basics 101: Understanding Xposed Framework

04:25
XDA and its members are known for two things: being awesome and custom ROMs. Back in the Windows Mobile days just about every tweak had to be setup in the ROM by the chef and flashed to your device. With Android things have become more flexible. The most flexible option is using the Xposed Framework. With this you can cherry pick different mods you want to add to your device. In today's video XDA Developer TV Producer Kevin talks about the Xposed Framework. He gives a basic overview of what Xposed does. Then Kevin talks about a few custom modules on XDA and shows what they can provide for you. So if you want to learn more about the Xposed Framework, check this video out. The Intricate and Beautiful World of Material Design

08:27
Material Design is a comprehensive design specification that encompasses more than just how things look in Android. It expresses how things should react, move, and be organized based on certain key principles that are specified by Google. Here's a look at how it all works and comes together to provide one of the most beautiful and intricate design paradigms in software history. For more sweet videos from Dagogo, check out his channel, ColdFusion TV: https://www.youtube.com/user/coldfustion And check out Google's official guide for Material Design: https://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html

One new feature of KitKat is poised to help improve application performance in Android. This feature is known as ART, though it's still an experimental feature, there is rumor that it will be the default soon. But what is this talk about ART really? And what is ART? In today's video, XDA Developer TV Producer Jordan talks about the ART runtime compiler. He gives a basic overview of what ART does. Then Jordan talks about what ART does differently than the current runtime compiler known as Dalvik. So if you want to learn more about the ART runtime, check this video out. Android Basics 101: Understanding Kernels

04:56
Par for the course at XDA is to customize our devices. This includes a custom theme or a custom ROM with different launchers, layouts and color schemes. However an important part of a device's firmware and software package is the kernel. The kernel is like salt in a recipe for cookies: you don't notice when it's there, but if it is not, you clearly miss it. In today's video XDA Developer TV Producer Kevin talks about the unsung hero of Android. He gives a basic overview of what a kernel does and discusses a few custom kernels on XDA and what they can provide for you. Android Basics 101: Understanding Wakelocks

05:49
The number one issue most people have with their smartphone is battery life, unless it's the Moto Droid Maxx or the LG G2. There are many tricks people have to help extend their battery's life: dim the screen all the way and squint to read the screen; turning off Wifi when they aren't at home and forgetting to turn it back on and using all their allotted data; or some other voodoo trick. However, there may be something impacting their battery life that they don't know about: Wakelocks. In today's video XDA Developer TV Producer Kevin talks about Wakelocks. He gives a basic overview of what wakelocks are. Then Kevin talks about a few apps that can help with solving this puzzle. These apps have been review by TK in the past: Wakelock Detector and Greenify. So if you want to learn more about wakelocks and how to deal with them, check this video out. This Is Why XDA-Developers.com Roots Android

04:02
Recently, Jamie Condliffe of Gizmodo posted an article asking why anyone would want to root their stock Android device. Our recent news that we published regarding the Nexus 4 begin rooted prompted the question. Condliffe asks, "What are the amazingly useful features you can only access by rooting a Nexus 4? And are they worth the effort, when you already have a great, clean install of Android on your handset in the first place? Tell us" Who better to answer this question than our own "wireless device" freedom advocate and XDA Developer TV Producer azrienoch. In this video azrienoch "tells them" why rooting is worth the effort. Check out what azrienoch has to say. Siri vs iRis [SassiBoB Review]

01:56
Today SassiBoB reviews Android's answer to Siri, iRis. iRis is a semi-productive artificial intelligence app. You can talk to iRis and iRis will talk back. But beware, she gets a little bit sarcastic, snarky, and just plain rude. Dexetra, the developer, says you need to have "Voice Search" and "TTS library" installed in your phone for iris to work, but most phones have them pre-installed. The permissions you have to allow are for full internet access and view network state, but hopefully soon there will be more for calendar, sms, and making phone calls and more. Check out some hilarious dialogue in SassiBoB's hands-on with iRis! iRis in the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dexetra.iris&feature=search_result XDA article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/enter-iris-so-long-siri-we-hardly-knew-ye/
