Comstock Mining (LODE): Close to Producing Gold and Silver In Nevada

07:24
http://goldstocktrades.com The Comstock Lode produced over 200 million ounces of silver. Comstock Mining (LODE) consolidated the historic Comstock Lode District over the past few years. The company targeted a rich, near surface, higher grade resource of gold and silver and was able to validate well over 2.5 million ounces of gold and more than 20 million ounces of silver. The Lucerne area now has a fully functioning processing facility and is scheduled to produce gold and silver by the end of September 2012. The Lucerne Area is only one out of seven major target areas. The company has been very successful at expanding and adding ounces at very low exploration costs. Costs of finding gold and silver worldwide have increased, however Comstock has been able to add gold resources extremely economically. Comstock operates is Nevada which is one of the top places to mine precious metals from a permitting and cost basis. The company is on the verge of production and generating cash flow which will attract attention from large institutions.

Virginia City, Nevada

06:14
Recorded June 19, 1999. Virginia City is one of the oldest established cities in Nevada. Like many cities and towns in the state, Virginia City was a mining boomtown; in fact it is one of the most famous boomtowns in the Old West as it virtually appeared overnight as a result of the Comstock Lode silver strike of 1859. During its peak, Virginia City had a population of nearly 30,000 residents. When the Comstock Lode ended in 1898, the city's population declined sharply. The population of Virginia City is 1,000 people in the town. Virginia City was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961. This in effect created a Virginia City Historic District. Today, Virginia City is but a shadow of its former glory, however, it still draws over 2 million visitors per year. It is one of the nation's larger National Historic Landmarks and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Keeping with tradition, Virginia City does not have any chain stores or fast food restaurants. This video covers my short visit to the town in June 1999. From: http://timvp.com

GoldSpring Announces Its First Gold and Silver Mineral Reserve, Estimated at $604 MillionFont Scale: 15 May 2009 @ 11:57 am ET http://www.ibtimes.com/mining/prarticles/20090515/nv-gspg-announces.htm GOLD HILL, Nev., May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GoldSpring, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: GSPG) today is pleased to announce the results of a Mineral Reserve Declaration Report, compiled in accordance with the Society of Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) 2007 Mineral reserve reporting guidelines. The mineral reserve, an estimate of the economically mineable tonnage in the Hartford / Lucerne Complex, includes 20.3 million tons of ore, with 564,000 recoverable ounces of gold, and 5.85 million recoverable ounces of silver, with a gross value of $604 million at current prices. The Report also quantified mineral resources of 30 million additional tons, containing 870,000 ounces of gold and 12.9 million ounces of silver. The Mineral Reserve Declaration Report is the result of eight additional months of drilling, interpretation, and analysis since the Company published its September 2008 Resource Report. Jim Golden, GoldSpring's Chief Operating Officer, stated: "This report is the culmination of a tremendous amount of work by our team, including drilling, detailed geological mapping, metallurgical testing, cost-estimating, mine modeling, and permitting. We now have confidence in the continuity of the mineralization and the economics of the deposit, and can move forward with the detailed mine-planning to reopen the mine." The mineral reserve was estimated from GoldSpring's drilling program that was conducted from December 2007 to February 2009 and consisted of 182 development drill holes combined with 458 drill holes from past drill campaigns. GoldSpring's Chief Geologist, Larry Martin commented: "The new drilling has greatly increased our geological knowledge, and understanding of the structural and mineralization controls. As a result, we have identified 36 new exploration targets for the next round of drilling." This is especially significant since the Hartford / Lucerne mineral reserve occupies only 81 acres, less than 2% of the Company's land holdings in the Comstock District. (Contained within those land holdings are 166 acres, including 14 acres in the mineral reserve area, under LOI with one of the Company's largest creditors.) The mineral reserve modeling was performed by Michael Norred, President of Techbase International, Morrison, Colorado. Mr. Norred said: "This has been a great project, and I'm glad to have played a part in its success." Rob Faber, GoldSpring's Chief Executive Officer, stated: "We are very pleased with the mineral reserves shown in the report. This initial valuation of our Hartford / Lucerne mineral reserve should serve as a catalyst for securing favorable financing for advancing the project through land acquisitions, additional drilling, and the capital expenditures for mine and mill equipment."

Comstock Trail Part 16 "Sutros Death Pit"

04:29
Our final area of the second investigation would take place at the Sutro ventilation shaft. At one time the Sutro Tunnel ventilated this deep tunnel this one being 1 of 4 of them. The tunnel was originally designed to relieve flooding as miners dug deep into the earth in search of mineral bearing quartz. Sadly when they drilled into hot water and steam it would cause injury, death and flooding. Some miners drowned in some of the mines or suffocated due to fires it was a deadly job. Just below this pit good men died some were never even found again. The tunnel below this pit acted like a subway that connected Virginia City to the town of Sutro/Dayton going underground approximately 4 miles. It was used to transport goods and people between both mining towns. I crossed the fence for our viewers to throw a stone down the shaft you can hear it fall as the sound fades as it falls into the shafts depths.

Austin Nevada - Part 3 "No Place Like The Manhattan"

39:06
The Manhattan Mill & Mine brought in millions of dollars in silver and gold when it opened in the mid 1800s shortly after Austin's boom. Its good years lasted till about the early 1870s then many of the miners went on strike because they felt they were not receiving fair wages like the miners of Virginia Cities Comstock Lode. Although the Manhattan Mining Silver Company purchased many of the local claims by 1890 the rich mines were exhausted and the company disbanded. Millions of dollars of revenue made Austin at one point in Nevada's history its second largest city. The site had multiple mines and stamp mills today very little is left of this massive mining operation which resides above the city. At one time the stamps could be heard by those who lived in Austin and today what does remain is a few mere small piles of wood and a few rusty remnants of the past. Despite the lack of evidence of the past we discover an old miners cabin and film from the top of the Toiyabe Range overlooking historic Austin. When we reach the top you can get a sense of how remote of an area we are at with vast desert expanses, forested peaks and complete isolation from the rest of the world. A narrow gauge railroad use to come through the Manhattan that ran off a spur that went through Clifton. The train would be used to haul ore the higher grades were shipped off while lower grades were milled right on site. www.paranormalghostsociety.org/AustinNevada.htm

Virginia City Historic Town

03:37
Virginia City is a town in Nevada, southeast of Reno. It's home to Victorian buildings built during a 19th-century mining boom. These include the reportedly haunted Washoe Club and stately Piper’s Opera House. Collections at The Way It Was Museum feature mining artifacts and maps. Fourth Ward School Museum has an 1876 classroom and history displays. Silver ore and rock drills are among the exhibits at Chollar Mine. Elevation: 6,148′ Population: 855 (2010) VIRGINIA CITY Roughly 20 miles southeast of Reno lies a little nugget of history in Virginia City, Nevada. Most famous for the Comstock Lode, this historic town was a booming mining establishment for several decades in the mid-1800s. Jump back in time by taking a stroll down the wooden sidewalks, quenching your thirst at one the unique saloons, riding on a steam engine or taking a haunted ghost tour in what was once the most important industrial city between Denver and San Francisco. Virginia City has been attracting visitors to the area with arts and culture for more than 150 years with art centers and museums scattered throughout the area. Historic Piper’s Opera House, located on a hillside overlooking C street, is considered one of the nation’s most famous performance venues and one of the most significant vintage theatres in America. Built in 1885, and still in use, the stage has hosted President Grant, Buffalo Bill, Al Jolson and Mark Twain over the years. Another piece of Virginia City arts history is the Fourth Ward School. Built as a state-of-the-art school in 1876, the Fourth Ward now serves as a museum to commemorate the American West. Permanent exhibits include the Fourth Ward School building with an 1870’s classroom, a historic overview of the Comstock, as well as Virginia City alumni photographs and memorabilia. With more than 15 museums, you may have to visit multiple times to see them all! THINGS TO DO IN VIRGINIA CITY V&T Railroad The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is, by far, the most famous of all American short-line railroads. In its heyday, as many as 45 trains a day arrived and departed Virginia City. President Ulysses S. Grant and dignitaries the world overrode in the ornate coaches of the Virginia & Truckee. Completed in 1869, these trains hauled millions of dollars of gold and silver ore from the rich mines of Virginia City. Take a 35-minute excursion back into the Old West with a journey on the V&T Railroad from Virginia City, through tunnel 4 to Gold Hill, Nevada. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride while taking in the spectacular mountain scenery. Hear the conductor narrate the amazing history of the Comstock while the train chuffs past the famous Comstock Bonanza mine ruins. Virginia City Haunted Locations and Ghost Tours Well known for its rich mining history, Virginia City is self-proclaimed as one of the most haunted towns in America. If you like to dabble in the paranormal or are looking to try something new and a little spooky, Virginia City offers many haunted locations, as well as guided ghost tours. Built in 1876, the Silver Queen Hotel has many reported accounts of paranormal activity by guests over the years. If you choose to brave the night, you may encounter tapping on the walls, loud banging and possibly the sound of footsteps said to be coming from a woman who took her own life in Room 11. Another hotel said to be haunted is located right down the street in front of the old Yellowjacket mine, The Gold Hill Hotel and Miner’s Cabin. Home to two well-known spirits, this hotel draws visitors each year looking to stay in Rosie’s or William’s rooms and have their own encounter with the inhabitants. VIRGINIA CITY HISTORY In 1859, placer miners and prospectors in the western Great Basin made two amazing strikes of gold and silver ore near Virginia City. The Comstock Lode, as people soon called the ore body, resulted in what would today be billions of dollars in riches. Virginia City became a highly urbanized, industrial setting and by the early 1870s, together with its smaller neighbor, Gold Hill, reached a population of nearly 25,000, becoming one of the nation’s larger communities. Mining camps are known to pass through an evolution of boom, dramatic growth and excitement and then decline — Virginia City certainly followed that pattern. By the early 1880s, it was becoming clear that the good times were over. It had been years since miners had discovered any new bonanzas, and thousands of people were leaving for better opportunities. By the Great Depression, Virginia City had declined, shrinking into a town of only several hundred people. Interestingly, the NBC television Western, Bonanza, that ran from 1959 to 1973, brought a declining Virginia City back to life. Due to the enormous popularity of the show, visitors from around the world began to seek out and discover this famous Western city, previously known only through the chronicled, weekly adventures of the Cartwright family.

Royal Mine Stamp Mill (Official Trailer)

07:06
In the 21st Century, Philipsburg is one of Montana’s premier tourist destinations. Centrally located in the western part of the state, it’s a gateway to a wealth of outdoor activities for both summer and winter enthusiast alike. But the 150-year-old origin story of this town is much different. It’s a tale of men and women who headed west during the country’s great expansion in search of something better; of people who sought the ore that the earth held and was unwilling to relinquish and how they released it to strike it rich or fail in the attempt. The Royal Mine Stamp Mill reflects the late 1800s, a time when men made their futures by the strength of their back and the sweat of their brow. It demonstrates the creativity ingenuity and tenacity of those would make their way in the world at any cost. The Royal Mine Stamp Mill is their monument. The Royal Mine Stamp Mill documentary is currently in production (as of June 21, 2017) and is preparing for a release date in 2018. The trailer will be premiered at the Philipsburg, Montana Sesquicentennial Celebration June 22, 2017. We hope you will join us in Philipsburg, Montana for its premier.

Ghost towns - Virginia City, Nevada, USA

01:18
Virginia City is the best preserved ghost town in the American West. Located in the US state of Nevada, specifically in Storey County, the city of Virginia is a ghost town, although it feels very much alive. Virginia City is not only frozen in time, but this historic city offers one of the best-preserved examples of the numerous mining camps found in the western region of America. Following the gold rush era, Virginia City and nearby cities in Nevada became known as the richest gold strike site found in the Rocky Mountains region. During the first three years of gold mining, it is believed that an estimated $30 million worth of gold was extracted from the mine. By 1870s the population of the city was above 25,000 residents and was known as the richest city in the US, but by 2010 the city of Virginia only had about 855 residents. Currently, the city comprises of over 200 historic buildings preserved for tourists, and it also features several events including the Heritage Days & Victorian Ball held in August. In 1961, Virginia City was designated as a National Historic Landmark, and in 1976, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. America West: Bodie Ghost Town

14:04
This is Bodie, or rather the remains of Bodie. Only about five percent of the buildings it contained during its 1880s heyday still remain. Today, it stands just as time, fire and the elements have left it—a genuine California gold mining ghost town. Designated a state historic park in 1962, it is now maintained in a state of "arrested decay." Bodie was named after Waterman S. Body (also known as William S. Bodey), who discovered gold here in 1859. The change in spelling of the town's name has often been attributed to an illiterate sign painter, but it was a deliberate change by the citizenry to ensure proper pronunciation. The town of Bodie rose to prominence with the decline of mining along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. Prospectors crossing the eastern slope in 1859 to "see the elephant"—that is, to search for gold—made a rich discovery at Virginia City. This huge gold strike, later to be known as the Comstock Lode, started a wild rush to the surrounding high desert country. By 1879 Bodie boasted a population of about 10,000 and was second to none for wickedness, badmen, and "the worst climate out of doors." One little girl, whose family was taking her to the remote and infamous town, wrote in her diary: "Goodbye God, I'm going to Bodie." The phrase came to be known throughout the West. Killings occurred with monotonous regularity, sometimes becoming almost daily events. The fire bell, which tolled the ages of the deceased when they were buried, rang often and long. Robberies, stage holdups and street fights provided variety, and the town's 65 saloons offered many opportunities for relaxation after hard days of work in the mines. The Reverend F M. Warrington saw it in 1881 as "a sea of sin, lashed by the tempests of lust and passion." Nearly everyone has heard about the infamous "Badman from Bodie." Some historians say that he was a real person by the name of Tom Adams. Others say his name was Washoe Pete. It seems more likely, however, that he was a composite. Bad men, like bad whiskey and bad climate, were endemic to the area. Whatever the case, the streets are quiet now. Bodie still has its wicked climate, but with the possible exception of an occasional ghostly visitor, its badmen are all in their graves.

DESERT DOG AND DRUNK MIKE GOLD PANNING - NEVADA GOLD?!?!

06:26
Drunk Mike took me along to prospect and pan for gold in Nevada. This was my first time looking for the infamous "yellow mineral", and I thought it would be really hard. It was actually a lot of fun and generally a good excuse to hang out, shoot the breeze, and learn something new! After exploring a mine and lowering Tunnel Dog into an old mine shaft, we relaxed, took in the scenery, and tried to strike it rich. No gold, but I think we still did OK! Great scenery, good times, NO ONE around!

Gold Butte means jobs for Nevada

04:05
In Nevada, more than 20,000 jobs depend on public lands and each year active outdoor recreation generates $116 million in state tax revenue. Places like Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and Black Rock Desert are able to bring people from all over the country because of their pristine and awe-inspiring environments. Now Congress has the opportunity to protect and enhance another place in Nevada that could become a major tourist attraction: Gold Butte By designating Gold Butte a National Conservation Area (the same designation as Red Rock Canyon), Congress would put Mesquite on the map as the best place to stop, stay, and launch excursions into Gold Butte.

Corazon Gold Corp. CGW.V - Santo Domingo, Nicaragua

05:48
Corazonʼs principal property, in Santo Domingo, Nicaragua is wholly surrounded by B2Goldʼs La Libertad concession, which is home to the countryʼs biggest producing mine. Corazon's property boundary is located 200 metres from B2's Jabali vein discovery, which revealed results of 522,000 ounces Au at 4.58 g/t. For centuries, Artisanal miners have been mining the gold-bearing quartz veins at Santo Domingo. Corazon is the first company to apply modern exploration techniques to the property and kicked off drilling in February 2011. Mapping and trenching of the property was completed in December 2010 and revealed over 15km of epithermal quartz veins. Drilling to date has revealed grades as high as 27.50 grams per ton at 0.3m, 17.47 g/t at 1.25m and 16.81 g/t at 0.35m in the veins tested. With 34 exploratory holes having been completed to date, Phase 2 drilling will further probe the Amparo zone and the Santo Domingo vein, in addition to the several kilometers of strike that remains untouched on the property. Corazon is led by an experienced geological and management team. This includes Directors: Carl Hering, (Ph.D), Rosie Moore, John King Burns and Stephen Barley; CEO & Director Patrick Brauckmann; and CFO Maricruz Alvarado. The exploration team is lead by Robert Johansing, Marco Montecinos and John Spurney, each having made major discoveries in Central America. As of November, 2011, 60,496,554 shares were issued, with insiders holding 48%, and 44% in the hands of North Americaʼs leading institutions. We remain well capitalized with approximately $8 million (CAD) in the treasury. Dated Nov. 2011

Extorre Makes Another Significant High Grade Gold-Silver Discovery At Cerro Moro

23:30
Click here for FREE XG Package: https://secure.campaigner.com/CSB/Public/Form.aspx?fid=582508 Mr. Yale Simpson, Co-Chairman of Extorre Gold Mines talks about Extorre Gold Mines' newest bonanza grade discovery Zoe at the Cerro Moro Gold-Silver Project. The news of this discovery was released earlier in the week and Mr. Simpson goes through in-depth about this particular discovery and its impact on the project going forward. He also takes the opportunity to talk about Extorre's other exciting regional projects that are just being drilled for the first time with results pending. This is the style of presentation you would expect Mr. Simpson to give at an international resource conference or to a broker or analyst reviewing the Company. About Extorre: Extorre Gold Mines Limited is a Canadian public company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the symbol XG and the NYSE-AMEX under the symbol XG. The Cash position in April, 2011, was $33 million. Cerro Moro: Extorre's Flagship Project Extorre's priority is to expand its mineral resources at Cerro Moro with an aggressive drilling campaign of +100,000 meters. Four rigs are drilling at Cerro Moro now with two drill rigs focused on the recent Zoe Discovery. The bonanza grade Zoe Discovery has opened up +2km of new exploration ground on the Cerro Moro property where the company is focused on delineating new high-grade mineralization. On April 19, 2010, Extorre announced an updated National Instrument 43-101 compliant mineral resource estimate for Cerro Moro: Indicated: 357,000 Oz. Gold + 15.3 Million Oz. Silver (612,000 Oz. Gold Equivalent*) Inferred: 190,000 Oz. Gold + 12.0 Million Oz. Silver (390,000 Oz. Gold Equivalent*) The 612,000 ounce gold equivalent* indicated resource, entirely from the Escondida vein, has an average grade of 32.3 g/t gold equivalent*, a grade considered exceptional by industry standards. The silver contribution is high, accounting for over 40% of the metal value using 60:1 sliver to gold ratios; using a 50:1 ratio, the project becomes silver dominant. Additional inferred resources of 390,000 ounces gold equivalent* are also reported from the Escondida, Loma Escondida, Gabriela, Esperanza, and Deborah veins. This inferred resource contains new material not previously estimated. The 43-101 report for the Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for Cerro Moro can be accessed from this website and provides estimated mine operating and capital costs for a potential 750 tonne per day mine delivering +130,000 ounce gold equivalent per annum over the initial five years' operations. An Environmental Impact Assessment including this mining scenario is expected to be approved by permitting authorities in Q2, 2011. Four drill rigs are currently dedicated to expanding the near-mine gold-silver resources at Cerro Moro, providing further high grade resources beyond year five in the currently planned mine schedule. The Escondida and the Gabriela veins together with the newly discovered Lucia vein all show significant potential for expansion both along strike and at depth. In addition, other veins on the property with high silver-gold grades will be tested as we move through Q1 in 2011. Outside of the Cerro Moro project area, Extorre will also initiate drilling to realize the discovery potential of other properties in its portfolio. *refer to Extorre's April 19, 2010 Press Release. #newrangegold $NRG.V $CBMPF Drilling For High Grade Gold on Historic Nevada Property

10:35
http://goldstocktrades.com/blog For most of my adult life I have loved junior gold exploration stocks in Nevada and have done quite well in the past for my subscribers finding Long Canyon long before the masses realized it was the next big gold mine in Nevada and would be acquired by Newmont for millions. I still constantly look at the newswires for companies actively exploring in Nevada and sometimes roll the dice on them. However, there comes a time when there are unique individuals who are able to drill the right targets at the right time. I have followed Robert Carrington’s work in Nevada for years especially his advanced work on the Comstock Lode and Twin Creeks. He also owns the Mt. Hamilton Mine in Nevada. I have followed him for awhile and became quite interested when he acquired a new project in Nevada. You see Robert Carrington is known as one of the top geological engineers in Nevada and is like a walking encyclopedia of mining exploration and engineering. Its like second nature for him as he has decades of experience plus he comes from a direct line of miners going back to the middle ages. He stopped by my neighborhood in Miami to give me an update on Newrange Gold $NRG.V $CMBPF which I own and are website advertisers who is exploring for high grade gold in Nevada right now. I expect news as they have a lot of cash and a really great high grade target in Nevada. Robert is a native Nevada resident and graduated the School of Mines in Reno. He has directed numerous exploration programs and I got to know him by seeing his geological work on the Comstock and Newmont’s Twin Creeks Mine. Now he believes he is onto something quite interesting in the Pamlico mining district which has been known about as a high grade gold distict since 1884. However, this district has been privately owned for more than 100 years. The Patriarch of the family that owned the mine started developing the mine in the 1980’s exploring and building a 600 ft decline that could’ve cost millions of dollars. Robert and his Dad knew the Patriarch well as he was a college classmate and a friend of the family. Unfortunately, the Patriarch’s health failed and he passed on. Now the property is in the hands of Robert Carrington’s Newrange Gold $NRG.V $CMBPF and they are drilling it for the first time in many years. This is the first time this has been drilled by a public company giving us access to Robert’s decades of experience and relationships in Nevada. The infrastructure of the project is tremendous only 20 miles from Hawthorne, Nevada with access from paved roads maintained by the Government. Earlier this year Newrange conducted channel sampling in the decline which really got the market excited and helped them raise money for a drill program currently underway. The company is completing 19 drill holes so I am hoping for some good news. Assays are pending so news could be imminent. Newrange has cash of $1.9 million and the treasury is growing as warrants are being exercised. In addition to this exciting exploration program Newrange has Colombian Assets that are self sustaining. A new high grade gold discovery in Nevada could be quite exciting for the entire junior sector. I hope Robert Carrington’s Newrange Gold $NRG.V $CMBPF can execute in this drill program and show that there is still high grade gold to be discovered in Nevada. If they can start hitting here with the drill then I believe a major will come in and take the next round of financing as a strategic. In conclusion, Newrange Gold $NRG.V $CMBPF is a unique high quality situation. It has a famous Nevada geologist exploring a historic high grade district that has been held privately for over a hundred years with some juicy high grade samples, cash in the bank, no debt and numerous projects in Colombia which the market may be giving zero value. Disclosure: I am a shareholder and Newrange Gold is a website sponsor. This means I have a conflict of interest and am biased. This should be considered an advertisement with forward looking statements which may not come to fruition as small cap investing is incredibly risky. I may buy and/or sell at anytime. Do your own due diligence as this is not financial advice. I am not a registered financial advisor. Please be aware.

Gold Panning in Angeles National Forest California

06:46
Prospecting and sampling a site for color in Angeles National Forest, 2/28/10. The idea is to hand pan for the presence of gold before you do any serious digging. 1. Find the gold line (inside curve of stream). 2. Locate a gravel deposit. 3. Dig a sample and classify (screen) to 1/4 inch. 4. Pan it and look for color. I'm at "Pry Bar Gulch" - a small canyon that is dry most of the year. I took advantage of a rainstorm the day before to pan while the small creek was running.

The Legend of Tahoe Joe

01:51
I first met the legendary Tahoe Joe in August of 1861. When the War Between the States closed the Mississippi and dry-docked me as a river pilot, I came west to try my fortune on the Comstock Lode. Having been raised with the respect for hard work, I usually stepped out of its way on every occasion I could - especially if it took place in a tunnel one thousand feet underground. But tunnels need timbers, and I needed to eat, so I moseyed up to Lake Tahoe to stake out a timber ranch. One day, a young lad in buckskins dropped by. He carried an old flintlock and said he was out hunting meat and herbs for his mother, a Washoe who cooked for a timber camp on the east shore. His father was a mountain man with an itchy foot who skedaddled when news of the silver strike came over the Carson range. Being a helpful sort, Joe taught me how to catch and cook rabbits. In return, I taught him the delights of poker and sour mash whiskey. I found him to be great company - gregarious, quick to laugh, and wise beyond his years. We cut nicks in our thumbs and promised to be blood brothers forever. Not long after, I managed to turn a campfire into a sizable forest fire and abandoned my career as timber baron to become a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise. I encountered Joe in Virginia City two years later. He was walloping pots as an apprentice cook in a hotel kitchen by day and dancing attendance to Lucky Lady at the 'C' Street poker tables by night. We renewed our friendship over one of Joe's special steaks, and it was plain even then that the lad was destined for success. When the Central Pacific Railroad reached Reno in 1868, it's president came down to Virginia City to try one of Joe's culinary extravaganza. Joe so impressed him that he hired him on the spot as chef on his private Pullman Car. Joe sometimes got to sit in on poker games with the railroad nabobs and eventually won enough to start his own restaurant at Lake Tahoe. Because of Joe's reputation for fine Sierra Mountain cooking, and his willingness to share a joke, story, friendly drink or a hand of cards, the restaurant soon became the premier establishment on the lake - even after the Mother lode tailed out. Tahoe Joe's was a stop on every notable's peregrination of the West.

El Dorado Canyon Vegas Day Trip

00:50
Visiting Eldorado Canyon allows you to experience early Nevada. Gold and silver mining began in the Canyon soon after the Civil War. The Canyon contains ruminants of the ghostly mines and buildings. About half way down the canyon is the Techatticup Mine where you can learn more about the area's history and tour the old mine. The Canyon runs from the little village of Nelson to the Colorado River. The scenery is often stark and beautiful. The road ends in a undeveloped part of the National Recreational Area. Eldorado Canyon is a short drive from Las Vegas, off of US 95 a few miles south of Henderson. Exit US 95 at Nevada Route 165 and drive to the village of Nelson. Continue on Route 165 to view the Canyon. There are few services near Eldorado Canyon so visitors should bring snacks and drinks. There are numerous restaurants in the Henderson area which is just a few minutes before reaching the Canyon.

History of the Haas School of Business by Sandra Epstein

Sandra P. Epstein, author of Business at Berkeley: The History of the Haas School of Business (2016), will give a seminar focused on the history of the Business School and its relationship to the campus and to university business education. Not until the end of the nineteenth century and the ascension of more entrepreneurial university presidents, was attention directed toward forging stronger relationships with the business communities of the State and also to elevating the study of commerce to the scholarly levels of the campus community. The Haas School of Business’ upward trajectory from a “College of Commerce” to its top-ranked position today owes as much to its place as it does to its people and culture. Its affiliation with the Berkeley campus has ensured rigorous academic scholarship and research as well as placed it in the forefront of innovative developments in business, technology, and society. Sandra P. Epstein, Ph.D. is the author of Business at Berkeley: The History of the Haas School of Business (Institute of Governmental Studies Press, Berkeley 2016).

Three principal types of activities are identified: 1. Raising funds by taking deposits and/or issuing securities and, in the process, incurring liabilities. Establishments engaged in this activity use raised funds to acquire financial assets by making loans and/or purchasing securities. Part Two of Demystifying Credits Video is dedicated to myths like: - The burden of proof rests with the consumer to validate information; - It is illegal to have the information on your credit report altered or removed; - Paying a past due debt removes it from your credit report. The independent spirit of the Old West pervades Nevada, America’s seventh-largest state by area, which lies landlocked by Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho and Oregon. Despite its size, Nevada’s 110,540 square miles of land contain only 2.75-millon people (less than half the population of New York City). Residents endure a subtropical desert climate, with January lows averaging 36 degrees and July temperatures soaring into the low 100s. Nevada saw its early heyday beginning in 1859, when the world’s largest silver find was unearthed in the hills northeast of Carson City, the present-day capital. Nearby, to the north, Virginia City preserves its downtown as it looked in the rough-and-tumble days when thousands of miners poured in to dig their share of the Comstock Lode. Most of the Finance and Insurance subsectors contain one or more industry groups of (1) intermediaries with similar patterns of raising and using funds and (2) establishments engaged in activities that facilitate, or are otherwise related to, that type of financial or insurance intermediation. Industries within this sector are defined in terms of activities for which a production process can be specified, and many of these activities are not exclusive to a particular type of financial institution. To deal with the varied activities taking place within existing financial institutions, the approach is to split these institutions into components performing specialized services. This requires defining the units engaged in providing those services and developing procedures that allow for their delineation. Nevada is a state in the western, mountain west, and southwestern regions of the United States. Nevada is the 7th most extensive, the 35th most populous, and the 9th least densely populated of the 50 United States. Nearly three-quarters of Nevada's people live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area where the state's three largest incorporated cities are located. Nevada's capital is Carson City. Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" due to the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State", because it achieved statehood during the Civil War; "Sagebrush State", for the native eponymous plant; and "Sage hen State." Nevada is largely desert and semiarid, with much of it located within the Great Basin. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,274. The majority of the town's population lives in Eagle Valley, on the eastern edge of the Carson Range, a branch of the Sierra Nevada, about 30 miles (50 km) south of Reno. The town began as a stopover for California-bound emigrants, but developed into a city with the Comstock Lode, a silver strike in the mountains to the northeast. The city has served as Nevada's capital since statehood in 1864; for much of its history it was a hub for the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, although the tracks were removed in 1950. Before 1969, Carson City was the county seat of Ormsby County. The county was abolished that year, and its territory merged with Carson City to form the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City. With the consolidation, the city limits extend west across the Sierra Nevada to the California state line in the middle of Lake Tahoe. Like other independent cities in the United States, it is treated as a county-equivalent for census purposes.

About 86% of the state's land is managed by various jurisdictions of the U.S. federal government, both civilian and military. Before European contact, Native Americans of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe tribes inhabited the land that is now Nevada. The first Europeans to explore the region were Spanish. They called the region Nevada (snowy) because of the snow which covered the mountains in winter. The area formed part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, and became part of Mexico when it gained independence in 1821. The United States annexed the area in 1848 after its victory in the Mexican–American War, and it was incorporated as part of Utah Territory in 1850. The discovery of silver at the Comstock Lode in 1859 led to a population boom that became an impetus to the creation of Nevada Territory out of western Utah Territory in 1861. Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, as the second of two states added to the Union during the Civil War (the first being West Virginia).Nevada has a reputation for its libertarian laws. In 1940, with a population of just over 110,000 people, Nevada was by far the least-populated state, with less than half the population of the next least-populated state. However, legalized gambling and lenient marriage and divorce laws transformed Nevada into a major tourist destination in the 20th century. Nevada is the only U.S. state where prostitution is legal, though it is illegal in Clark County (Las Vegas), Washoe County (Reno) and Carson City (which, as an independent city, is not within the boundaries of any county). The tourism industry remains Nevada's largest employer, with mining continuing as a substantial sector of the economy: Nevada is the fourth-largest producer of gold in the world.

You Bet Your Life: Secret Word - Door / Foot / Tree

01:27:39
Julius Henry "Groucho" Marx (October 2, 1890 -- August 19, 1977) was an American comedian and film and television star. He is known as a master of quick wit and widely considered one of the best comedians of the modern era. His rapid-fire, often impromptu delivery of innuendo-laden patter earned him many admirers and imitators. He made 13 feature films with his siblings the Marx Brothers, of whom he was the third-born. He also had a successful solo career, most notably as the host of the radio and television game show You Bet Your Life. His distinctive appearance, carried over from his days in vaudeville, included quirks such as an exaggerated stooped posture, glasses, cigar, and a thick greasepaint mustache and eyebrows. These exaggerated features resulted in the creation of one of the world's most ubiquitous and recognizable novelty disguises, known as "Groucho glasses", a one-piece mask consisting of horn-rimmed glasses, large plastic nose, bushy eyebrows and mustache. Groucho Marx was, and is, the most recognizable and well-known of the Marx Brothers. Groucho-like characters and references have appeared in popular culture both during and after his life, some aimed at audiences who may never have seen a Marx Brothers movie. Groucho's trademark eye glasses, nose, mustache, and cigar have become icons of comedy—glasses with fake noses and mustaches (referred to as "Groucho glasses", "nose-glasses," and other names) are sold by novelty and costume shops around the world. Nat Perrin, close friend of Groucho Marx and writer of several Marx Brothers films, inspired John Astin's portrayal of Gomez Addams on the 1960s TV series The Addams Family with similarly thick mustache, eyebrows, sardonic remarks, backward logic, and ever-present cigar (pulled from his breast pocket already lit). Alan Alda often vamped in the manner of Groucho on M*A*S*H. In one episode, "Yankee Doodle Doctor", Hawkeye and Trapper put on a Marx Brothers act at the 4077, with Hawkeye playing Groucho and Trapper playing Harpo. In three other episodes, a character appeared who was named Captain Calvin Spalding (played by Loudon Wainwright III). Groucho's character in Animal Crackers was Captain Geoffrey T. Spaulding. On many occasions, on the 1970s television sitcom All In The Family, Michael Stivic (Rob Reiner), would briefly imitate Groucho Marx and his mannerisms. Two albums by British rock band Queen, A Night at the Opera (1975) and A Day at the Races (1976), are named after Marx Brothers films. In March 1977, Groucho invited Queen to visit him in his Los Angeles home; there they performed "'39" a capella. A long-running ad campaign for Vlasic Pickles features an animated stork that imitates Groucho's mannerisms and voice. On the famous Hollywood Sign in California, one of the "O"s is dedicated to Groucho. Alice Cooper contributed over $27,000 to remodel the sign, in memory of his friend. In 1982, Gabe Kaplan portrayed Marx in the film Groucho, in a one-man stage production. He also imitated Marx occasionally on his previous TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter. Actor Frank Ferrante has performed as Groucho Marx on stage for more than two decades. He continues to tour under rights granted by the Marx family in a one-man show entitled An Evening With Groucho in theaters throughout the United States and Canada with piano accompanist Jim Furmston. In the late 1980s Ferrante starred as Groucho in the off-Broadway and London show Groucho: A Life in Revue penned by Groucho's son Arthur. Ferrante portrayed the comedian from age 15 to 85. The show was later filmed for PBS in 2001. Woody Allen's 1996 musical Everyone Says I Love You, in addition to being named for one of Groucho's signature songs, ends with a Groucho-themed New Year's Eve party in Paris, which some of the stars, including Allen and Goldie Hawn, attend in full Groucho costume. The highlight of the scene is an ensemble song-and-dance performance of "Hooray for Captain Spaulding"—done entirely in French. In the last of the Tintin comics, Tintin and the Picaros, a balloon shaped like the face of Groucho could be seen in the Annual Carnival. In the Italian horror comic Dylan Dog, the protagonist's sidekick is a Groucho impersonator whose character became his permanent personality. The BBC remade the radio sitcom Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel, with contemporary actors playing the parts of the original cast. The series was repeated on digital radio station BBC7. Scottish playwright Louise Oliver wrote a play named Waiting For Groucho about Chico and Harpo waiting for Groucho to turn up for the filming of their last project together. This was performed by Glasgow theatre company Rhymes with Purple Productions at the Edinburgh Fringe and in Glasgow and Hamilton in 2007-08. Groucho was played by Scottish actor Frodo McDaniel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groucho

It borders Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, California to the west, Arizona to the southeast and Utah to the east. Nevada is the 7th most extensive, the 34th most populous, but the 9th least densely populated of the U.S. states. Nearly three-quarters of Nevada's people live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area where three of the state's four largest incorporated cities are located. Nevada's capital, however, is Carson City. Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" because of the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State", because it achieved statehood during the Civil War (the words "Battle Born" also appear on the state flag); as the "Sagebrush State", for the native plant of the same name; and as the "Sage-hen State".Nevada is largely desert and semi-arid, much of it within the Great Basin. Areas south of the Great Basin are within the Mojave Desert, while Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada lie on the western edge.
