Bitcoin Q&A: Scaling and the block size debate

04:46
In this talk in Berlin, Andreas looks at the inner structure of bitcoin and how high-level financial and trust applications are composed from smaller elements. Using analogies from Lego blocks to a chef creating new recipes, this talk highlights the connection between creativity and the flexibility offered by fine-grained components. Uploaded on April 22nd, 2016. Keywords/phrases: Blocksize debate, Bitcoin scaling, consensus. Decentralized control in decision-making is not a bug, it's a feature. Segregated Witness, hard fork to 2Mb, and other optimizations.

Benedikt Bünz : Bulletproofs

01:15:29
Benedikt Bünz (https://crypto.stanford.edu/~buenz/) spoke about Bulletproofs. Benedikt is a PhD student in the Applied Cryptography Group at Stanford. Bulletproofs are short non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that require no trusted setup. A bulletproof can be used to convince a verifier that an encrypted plaintext is well formed. For example, it can prove that an encrypted number is in a given range, without revealing anything else about the number. Compared to SNARKs, Bulletproofs require no trusted setup. However, verifying a bulletproof is more time consuming than verifying a SNARK proof. How it applies to Bitcoin Bulletproofs are designed to enable efficient confidential transactions in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Confidential transactions hide the amount that is transferred in the transaction. Every confidential transaction contains a cryptographic proof that the transaction is valid. Bulletproofs shrink the size of the cryptographic proof from over 10kB to less than 1kB. Moreover, bulletproofs support proof aggregation, so that proving that m transaction values are valid adds only O(log(m)) additional elements to the size of a single proof. If all Bitcoin transactions were confidential and used Bulletproofs, then the total size of the blockchain would be only 17 GB, compared to 160 GB with the currently used proofs. Bulletproofs have many other applications in cryptographic protocols, such as shortening proofs of solvency, short verifiable shuffles, confidential smart contracts, and as a general drop-in replacement for Sigma-protocols

On Bitcoin Reaching Block Size Limits

05:32
As Bitcoin grows, its blocks are starting to fill up, and thus discussion has been ongoing on how to best handle this. The block size limit is current 1mb per block, 4mb, 8mb and 20mb limits per block are being proposed- I briefly share my ideas on the topic. Tags: Block size limit, blockchain, Cryptocurrency

Bitcoin SV Blockchain Grow Up To 5 Billion Users Will At 2019

11:47
Referral Link: https://www.binance.com/?ref=16699011 #Bitcoin #BTC #BSV #Crypto #BCHSV #BCSABC Bitcoin SV’s scalability means it will one day be capable of hosting billions of people on a daily basis, claims the project’s lead engineer. Daniel Connolly, a member of the SV development team, told Crypto Briefing that billions of people should be able to use the payments protocol. As the block size gradually increases, hopefully to 2 GB by the end of next year, more people will be able to use Bitcoin SV without putting too much strain on the network. “We aim to have 5 billion people [using BSV] daily”, said Connolly, at a CoinGeek conference in London. “It’s still a long way away, but it will become possible so far as we scale.” Bitcoin SV (‘Satoshi Vision’) was a proposed protocol implementation for the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) network upgrade, which took place earlier this month. BSV increased the block size from 64 MB to 128 MB. Supporters, including Calvin Ayre, the founder of CoinGeek, and Craig Wright from nChain, said it was the only solution for creating scalable payments that remain on the network – ‘on-chain’. Originally a proposal for Bitcoin Cash, not everyone agreed with SV. Most notably, Roger Ver, from Bitcoin.com, and Bitmain’s Jihan Wu, proposed their own rival implementation, known as Bitcoin ABC. When the hard fork happened, ABC, which had a larger share of the hashing power, became the preferred implementation. Within a week, most exchanges and data aggregators had accepted ABC as Bitcoin Cash. But followers of SV stayed on their own network. Bitcoin SV became its own independent blockchain network, currently valued at over $1.7bn. Will there be Bitcoin SV users? The main priority for Bitcoin SV is scalability. Connolly says that the plan is currently for the block size to increase to 512 MB in May and then to 2 GB by next November. Within 18 months they want to remove a limit on block sizes and allow miners to decide for themselves the size of blocks they wish to mine. Scalability is the main aim. SV was able to handle 1.6m transactions during a four hour stress test, conducted the week before the fork. But as the name – Satoshi Vision – implies, the project wants to remain truthful to what they see as the only fully decentralized and viable blockchain. This, they say, is encapsulated by Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin whitepaper. Simit Naik, nChain’s Director of Business Services, explained that SV was a way to restore Bitcoin back to what was originally imagined. “Satoshi outlined a perfectly usable peer-to-peer transaction system from day one”, he said. “Others entered the space later and wanted to fundamentally change Bitcoin into a technological tool. But the whole point of Bitcoin is it’s an economic model, why does it need to change?” Naik believed onboarding 5bn people is a realistic ambition for Bitcoin SV. It wants to be a decentralized alternative to Visa or Mastercard but it needs to convince its target market. He argues that creating a scalable network, one with faster payments and smaller transaction fees, is the answer. Targeting parts of the world that still lack access to modern financial services will improve mass-adoption. But is it? The CoinGeek Conference this week highlighted wounds were still fresh from the hash war. Craig Wright said yesterday he would use ABC to fertilize his garden. The animosity was palpable. Naik, for instance, didn’t think ABC could ever join back with SV. The dispute was irreconcilable for him. “[A chain merge] would make a mockery of the SV project,” he said. “They made their decisions, they need to stick with it. Even if it kills them.” Scalability is important. But users also want professionalism from their payments providers. Infighting and personal insults won’t help, and serious individuals and businesses will go elsewhere. It’s ironic that, while trying to entice businesses and users, Satoshi Vision remains blind to its own scarred features. Bitcoin Cash Explained ( BTC vs BCH )

08:04
Bitcoin Cash was launched in August 2017 and since become Bitcoin’s most popular cryptocurrency that has forked from bitcoin network. The reason of this fork is to increase the block size and process more transaction per second. Bitcoin’s maximum block capacity is 1MB, at this current time allows to process 3-7 transactions per second and implications of congested blocks, means paying high fees. Bitcoin’s cash on other hand maximum block capacity is 8MB witch is allowed to process around 60 transactions per second and fees 99% cheaper than original bitcoin. ================================================== 💰Get a Coinbase Wallet! - https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a4bf25... Why the bitcoin block size debate drags on.

Why does the bitcoin block size debate drag on? The main reason is very likely a financial incentive for miners to do nothing at all. They get paid increased transaction fees to do nothing. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Bitcoin Core is a reference client of bitcoin. Initially, the software was published by Satoshi Nakamoto under the name Bitcoin, then Bitcoin-Qt and later renamed to Bitcoin Core. It is also known as the Satoshi client. It is a full client used by bitcoin nodes that create the bitcoin network. Through the changes to Bitcoin Core, its developers make changes to the underlying bitcoin protocol. As of 2017, Bitcoin Core repositories are maintained by Wladimir J. van der Laan. The MIT Digital Currency Initiative funds some of development of Bitcoin Core. The project also maintains the cryptography library libsecp256k1 and others located at GitHub. In August 2016, a warning was issued regarding the software being targeted by state-sponsored attackers. The Bitcoin Foundation also warns that running the software may attract attacks which limit available download bandwidth. It includes a transaction verification engine and connects to the bitcoin network as a full node. Moreover, a wallet, which can be used to transfer funds, is included by default. The wallet allows for the sending and receiving of bitcoins. It does not facilitate the buying or selling of bitcoin. It allows users to generate QR codes to receive payment. The software validates the entire blockchain, which includes all bitcoin transactions ever. This distributed ledger which has reached more than 110 gigabytes in size must be downloaded or synchronised before full participation of the client may occur. A command line-based daemon with a JSON-RPC interface, bitcoind, is bundled with Bitcoin Core. It provides access to testnet, a global testing environment that imitates the bitcoin main network or Mainnet. It uses an alternative blockchain where real bitcoin are not used and the blockchain cannot be adversely affected. Regtest or Regression Test Mode creates a private blockchain which is used as a local testing environment. bitcoin-cli is the third program included. It allows users to send RPC commands to bitcoind. Checkpoints have been hard coded into the client. These maintain data integrity by keeping a part of the block chain data in the source code where it is able to be compared to the blockchain when its downloading is complete. A one megabyte block size limit was added in 2010 by Satoshi Nakamoto as a temporary anti-spam measure. This limited the maximum network capacity to about three transactions per second. Since then, some minor changes to the software have improved network capacity incrementally. A network alert system was included by Satoshi Nakamoto as a way of informing users of important news regarding bitcoin. In November 2016 it was retired. It had become obsolete as news on bitcoin is now widely disseminated. Miners are able to signal their decision on the incorporation of new features by voting. A powerful scripting language is used to define transactions. This Forth-like language is part of one of three distinct application programming interfaces. It can enable various transaction parameters. The script uses reverse Polish notation for validation. ScriptPubKey is used to "lock" transactions based on a set of future conditions. scriptSig is used to meet these conditions or "unlock" a transaction. Operations on the data are performed by various OP_Codes. Two stacks are used - main and alt. Looping is forbidden. ....

BBT Episode 11: 6x R7 240 Litecoin, Dogecoin, Feathercoin Mining Rig with Sneak peaks!

11:25
BEST VIEWED IN 1080p HD (once post processing completed!) In this episode the BBT takes things to a different level. We take 6x R7 240 sapphires and put them in one of our 6 GPU Open Air Rigs to see what kinda hash/power ratios we can achieve from a sub 50.00 card. To our surprise, these are amazingly efficient and effective considering their size and price point. Base configuration used in this build: BBT 6 GPU Open Air Mining Rig (v.2.0) Intel G3220 Haswell Dual Core Pentium CPU 5x 1x by 16x USB risers (powered) 4gb Corsair Ballistix DDR3 12800 Hitachi 250GB 7200RPM 2.5 HDD 6x Sapphire R7 240 /w Boost 1x Corsair CX600 *and a separate build with a OEM Sparkle 420w Using settings -I 17 -w 256 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-powertune -10 @248w AC from Wall (106k/h per card) Best Settings used: -I 17 -w 256 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 8192 --gpu-engine 950 --gpu-memclock 1000 --gpu-powertune 10 @ 271w AC from Wall (118k/h per card) Total build cost should be under $550.00 out the door for a 6 card rig if you build your own rig and order cheapest avail risers. In this build we used Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation and default windows (update) found drivers. Additionally we used CGMiner 3.7.2 Upcoming next episodes include 12x MSI Twin Frozr build, Pair of 750ti builds, single card and 6 card rig in addition to the Mineral Oil Mining Rig we have been talking about for two months. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our channel survives from subscribers like you and from tiny donations! Coingeek Funds Terabyte Block Initiative for Bitcoin Cash With 3.6M Euro

03:31
On January 15 the cryptocurrency media outlet and blockchain company Coingeek owned and operated by the financial tycoon Calvin Ayre announced funding an initiative called the ‘Terab Project’ with 3.6million euro.Coingeek alongside its partners Nchain and Lokad, plan to massively scale the bitcoin cash blockchain to terabyte (1 million MB) size blocks which could allow 7 million transactions per second. Also read: Kraken Exchange Returns After Longest Downtime Since 2013 Coingeek.com has revealed to the public that it is funding the open source development of 1 terabyte blocks for the bitcoin cash (BCH) protocol. The company is collaborating with the French quantitative supply chain technology provider, Lokad, as well as support from Nchain and its chief scientist Craig Wright.“The legacy Segwit bitcoin has shackled its own progress by refusing to allow the current block size cap (1MB) that only allows for 3-4 transactions per second to be lifted and thus has fated the coin to the dustbin of cryptocurrency history,” explains Coingeek’s announcement. But last October, the BCH community welcomed news that a 1 gigabyte (GB) block was successfully mined and propagated through the ‘Gigablock Testnet Initiative,’ the collaboration between Bitcoin Unlimited and Nchain.” Lokad founder, Joannes Vermorel has recently researched and explained that terabyte-size blocks are viable on the BCH chain.By funding the Terab Project with 3.6million euro, Coingeek believes this type of scaling could improve transaction throughput exponentially stating during the announcement: Coingeek says that Nchain’s chief scientist Craig Wright will work closely with the Terab Project, and Lokad will hire and manage a team to develop the Terab software. The Terab Project and its features will only be built for the BCH chain.Coingeek’s owner, Calvin Ayre believes this type of development is meant to be applied to Satoshi’s vision a “peer-to-peer electronic cash system.” “The criticisms of cryptocurrencies are very useful as they help us see what hurdles we have to take down in order to achieve low-fee micro-transactions — They are a few more which we will be addressing in due course but rest assured we will prove that BCH is the one true chain,” Ayre details during the Coingeek announcement.Additionally, Coingeek reveals that it plans to fund more projects that are focused on enabling the growth and adoption of the bitcoin cash network. The company says that if developers within the open source community have ideas or applications they would like to create for BCH they can contact Coingeek for possible funding. What do you think about the Terab Project and terabyte-sized blocks for the bitcoin cash blockchain? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Peter Rizun: A Bitcoin Fee Market Without A Blocksize Limit (Episode 172)

Support the show, consider donating: 16LVjxWGTbQuTV7Nxmpa1gCSfidbPpa71S (http://bit.ly/2me3j6i) With both the Bitcoin Unlimited and Segregated Witness efforts far from reaching majority support and exploding transaction fees, the debate around how to scale Bitcoin continues on. One of the key arguments against bigger blocks and Bitcoin Unlimited is that a blocksize restriction is needed to create a healthy fee market. Dr Peter Rizun has been researching the economics of transaction fees in Bitcoin extensively and joined us to discuss what dynamics affect fees and why he thinks the blocksize limit will eventually fall. Topics discussed in this episode: - Bitcoin seen through the eyes of a physicist - The dynamics that determine transaction fees in Bitcoin - How orphaning risks drive the fee market economics - The relationship between the block reward and the fee market - Why the blocksize limit will eventually fall - Why Peter supports Bitcoin Unlimited - The state of discussion between Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Unlimited Links mentioned in this episode: - Dr. Peter Rizun's talk at Scaling Bitcoin Montreal 2015: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad0Pjj_ms2k - Dr. Peter Rizun: "A Transaction Fee Market Exists Without a Block Size Limit": https://www.bitcoinunlimited.info/resources/feemarket.pdf - XT Nodes - Bitcoin Hashrate Distribution: http://xtnodes.com/ - Bitco.in Forum: https://bitco.in/forum/ - Ledger - Peer-Reviewed Journal on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain: http://ledgerjournal.org/ojs/index.php/ledger Sponsors: - Jaxx: Wallets that Unify the Blockchain Experience Across Devices - http://jaxx.io - Ledger: Smart card security for your Bitcoins - Get 10% off your first order when you use the code EPICENTER - http://ledgerwallet.com This episode is also available on : - Epicenter.tv: https://epicenter.tv/172 - YouTube: http://youtu.be/2eaMVWUXW8U - Souncloud: http://soundcloud.com/epicenterbitcoin/eb-172 Watch or listen, Epicenter is available wherever you get your podcasts. Tone Vays trolls Peter Rizun & Andrew Stone at Scaling Bitcoin 2017. Andrew's reply is gold. Original video: https://youtu.be/LDF8bOEqXt4?t=1h31m52s "We're looking forward. We're not assuming you're going to run a 5-year-old computer. The purpose of this is to say what can be done with computers today and even tomorrow. Obviously we're not going to be using 1 GB blocks tomorrow. But the fact is that a relatively inexpensive computer today *can* do so." www.BitcoinUnlimited.info www.Bitcoin.com www.reddit.com/r/btc

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency – the system works without a central repository or single administrator. The network is peer-to-peer and transactions take place between users directly through the use of cryptography, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. An unnamed person (or group of people) who went by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto invented bitcoin and released it as open-source software in 2009.

#Bitcoin How to Use BitGo to Send or Receive #Altcoins

01:45
Bitcoin wallets store the private keys that you need to access a bitcoin address and spend your funds. They come in different forms, designed for different types of device. You can even use paper storage to avoid having them on a computer at all. Of course, it is very important to secure and back up your bitcoin wallet. Bitcoins are a modern equivalent of cash and, every day, another merchant starts accepting them as payment. We know how they are generated and how a bitcoin transaction works, but how are they stored? We store fiat cash in a physical wallet, and bitcoin works in a similar way, except it's normally digital. Bitcoin paper, coin and USB wallets Well, to be absolutely accurate, you don't technically store bitcoins anywhere. What you store are the secure digital keys used to access your public bitcoin addresses and sign transactions. This information is stored in a bitcoin wallet. Bitcoin wallets come in a variety of forms. There are five main types of wallet: desktop, mobile, web, paper and hardware. Here’s how they work. Desktop wallets If you have already installed the original bitcoin client (Bitcoin Core), then you are running a wallet, but may not even know it. In addition to relaying transactions on the network, this software also enables you to create a bitcoin address for sending and receiving the virtual currency, and to store the private key for it. There are other desktop wallets too, all with different features. MultiBit runs on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. Hive is an OS X-based wallet with some unique features, including an app store that connects directly to bitcoin services. Some desktop wallets are tailored for enhanced security: Armory falls into this category. Others focus on anonymity: DarkWallet – uses a lightweight browser plug-in to provide services including coin ‘mixing’ in which users’ coins are exchanged for others’, to prevent people tracking them. Mobile wallets Desktop-based wallets are all very well, but they aren't very useful if you are out on the street, trying to pay for something in a physical store. This is where a mobile wallet comes in handy. Running as an app on your smartphone, the wallet can store the private keys for your bitcoin addresses, and enable you to pay for things directly with your phone. In some cases, a bitcoin wallet will even take advantage of a smartphone’s near-field communication (NFC) feature, enabling you to tap the phone against a reader and pay with bitcoins without having to enter any information at all. One common feature of mobile wallets is that they are not full bitcoin clients. A full bitcoin client has to download the entire bitcoin blockchain, which is always growing and is multiple gigabytes in size. That could get you into a heap of trouble with your mobile service provider, who will be only too happy to send you a hefty bill for downloading it over a cellular link. Many phones wouldn't be able to hold the blockchain in their memory, in any case. Instead, these mobile clients are often designed with simplified payment verification (SPV) in mind. They download a very small subset of the blockchain, and rely on other, trusted nodes in the bitcoin network to ensure that they have the right information.
