04:48
Black Rock Mining Ltd (ASX:BKT) chief executive officer John de Vries tells Proactive Investors that the granting of two contiguous mining licenses for the Mahenge Graphite Mine in Tanzania represents, "A really important milestone... the end of the principal permitting stage of the project; and from now on [the company] just moves forward with detailed engineering work and financing." Black Rock will be running a pilot plant in China in order to prove the flow sheet and the quality of the end product to potential offtakers. "We're still confident that towards the end of 2020 we'll start seeing the first product of the world's best graphite concentrate hit the market," says de Vries.

The Biggest Challenges Facing Miners, According To One CEO

05:54
Miners face a number of issues that aren’t solely financial, said Peter Tagliamonte, CEO of Belo Sun Mining. “I think in general, in the world right now, permitting social license is very important,” Tagliamonte told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Gold Stock Analyst Investor Day. “I think mining projects, in general, around the world have to pay more attention to social license, environmental issues, but ultimately I think if you’re persistent, you do good engineering, and you present your projects well, it will all be able to progress as planned.” _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. South Africa seals mining jobs deal, proposes platinum plan

02:31
Players in the mining industry have declared their commitment to saving jobs. But it's unclear if the declaration signed today can stop a wave of retrenments that threatens to crash down. And union AMCU was once again conspicuous by their absence at the signing ceremony. Up to 19 thousand jobs are at stake - which will worsen the plight of mining communities and is something that South Africa, with an unemployment rate above 25 percent, can ill afford. The Department of Minerals, the Chamber of Mines and Labour representatives all agreed to ten points or interventions. Chinese Geologists Claim Success in Combustible Ice Mining in South China Sea

00:57
Geologists at the China Geological Survey on Thursday announced success in the tentative mining of combustible ice in the South China Sea. Continuous mining has been conducted in the past week in the South China Sea, making China the first country to achieve continuous and stable gas production in the tentative drive. "Since the successful burning for official gas production on the combustible ice on May 10, we have been operating for eight days with daily output of over 10,000 cubic meters. The maximal daily output reached 35,000 cubic meters. The continuously stable output signals that we have realized our set goals," said Ye Jianliang, commander of the combustible ice mining project at the site and deputy chief engineer with the China Geological Survey. Combustible ice is a compound of methane and ice crystals of gas and water under low temperature and high pressure, conditions similar to the seabed. It is predicted that the reserve of combustible ice on earth is more than twice that of coal, oil and gas. Since most combustible ice is buried deep down in the seabed, mining of such clean energy is very challenging. Many countries including Japan and Canada have tried to tap it but are yet to reach their expected goals. Experts said the Chinese success means the country has mastered the world-class technology in the field. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170518/8050794.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

The Numsa strike set to countinue into a third week

07:18
The crippling NUMSA strike in the metal and engineering and steel industry looks set to continue into a third week. More than 200 thousand workers in South Africa's biggest union went on strike last week - just one week after the platinum mining strike ended. It was also a week of disappointing economic data with mining production falling by more than 6 percent in May. The majority of economists in a poll released by Reuters on Friday believe that the Reserve Bank will wait until September before raising interest rates. Lower interest rates boost the economy as people pay less on debt and therefore have more to spend. But the bank has warned it will have to hike rates again to deal with inflation or rising prices. The bank's MPC meets next week. For a global investor perspective we're joined by Standard Chartered's Razia Khan on the line from London.

ANC has pleaded with mining companies to review job cuts

00:28
The ANC has made an impassioned plea to mining companies to review their plans to cut thousands of jobs. Emerging from a Lekgotla, the party has cautioned against retrenchments in the midst of high unemployment and a fragile economy. Last week global mining companies Anglo and Lonmin, with large operations in South Africa, said they were plannning to cut about six thousand jobs each. It came while we reported that up to 10 thousand jobs are under threat in iron ore mining and steel production - due to an influx of cheaper imports. ANC National Executive Council resolutions will be discussed at this week's Cabinet Lekgotla. The party's secretary general Gwede Mantache has called the announced job cuts unpatriotic. INTERVIEW: South Africa's Mining Charter raises black ownership threshold to 30%, from 26%

05:12
Between 2012 and end 2016, South Africa's mining sector shed some 70,000 jobs. Last week alone, Sibanye Gold fired another 1,500 for taking part in an illegal strike. Anglo Platinum aims to create a new non-mining job for every mining job lost

02:45
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) -- Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), which is setting out to create at least one new non-mining job for every mining job lost in its proposed downsizing, saw its own share price and the global platinum price rise after announcing the most far-reaching restructuring of its 58-year history, which proposes that two mines close, four shafts be mothballed, a mine be put up for sale and the 14 000 mining jobs earmarked for shedding be matched by the creation of at least an equal number of new non-mining jobs.

10 Secrets Hidden Inside Famous Logos

04:34
See more at www.brilliantnews.com Branding nowadays is absolutely everywhere you look. We are constantly bombarded with so many icons and logos that we rarely stop to look further into them, but there are some very interesting and bizarre secrets hiding within these 10 famous logos! 1. Hyundai Bet you think the H logo is just the first letter of the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai? Of course you do! But it actually represents two figures: the happy client shaking hands with the Hyundai salesman, cleverly projecting the subliminal message of a successful car purchase. 2. Apple It was Rob Janoff who was tasked with creating the apple logo back in 1977. Janoff bought a bag of apples and spent the week sketching them, trying to represent the perfect angle where the fruit couldn´t be mistaken for a cherry. This was when he added a bite mark and stumbled across the similarity between Bite and Byte. This was definitely a selling point for Steve Jobs. 3. Vaio The first two letters in the computer company's name symbolize a digital waveform and the io is designed to look like a 1 and a 0, representing binary and the mix of analog and digital. Also the melody that sounds on startup actually derives from the dialtone sounds on a telephone keypad on typing V-A-I-O 4. Amazon Always aiming to please, Amazon designed their logo to represent a smile, projecting a sense of satifaction in their brand. Not only that, but the arrow also starts at ´a´ and finishes at 'z' implying that the company stocks every product you could possibly desire. 5. Toyota T-o-y-o-t-a. All the letters of the companies name can be found within the logo. But what does it represent? You're thinking A big strong buffalo's head or a cowboy with a hat, right? Wrong! It actually represents a needle and thread! This Japanese car manufacturer actually began making weaving machines and keeps its logo to this day! 6. Continental Sometimes overlooked, the continental logo is simple and clever. The first two letters are designed to symbolize a car wheel. 7. Toblerone This awkward-to-eat chocolate treat doesn't just have a simple mountain in its logo. Toblerone is made in Bern, Switzerland, so it´s no surprise to see one of the Swiss alps in its logo. But it also hides a secret bear hidden in the mountain, as Bern is known as the city of bears and the bear symbol is heavily decorated throughout the city. 8. BMW The German motor company started out making airplanes in 1916 and many think that the checker pattern in its logo represents the spinning propellers of an airplane. But it is actually just the design of the Bavarian flag, the part of Germany where the company originated. 9. Domino's Pizza In 1960 College dropout Tom Monaghan borrowed $900 to by a tiny pizza placed called Dominic's. 5 years later he bought 2 more locations. The former owner refused Tom the permission to use his name in the franchise so Tom turned it into Domino's. The dice in the logo represent the first restaurant that he bought, followed by the next two, and he had planned on adding numbers on every new opening. That was before he realized how big the franchise would become. 10. Unilever Who is Unilever, right? It's actually a huge corporation which owns over 400 famous brands. You've only got to look on the back of any of these popular products to find their logo hiding there. (Axe, Lipton, Ben and Jerry's, Dove, Heartbrand, Hellman's) But that's not all, the actual unilever logo is made up of 25 smaller logos, each with a rich meaning. A strand of hair or an icecream representing various brands, to more obscure references, like this bee... Which of these logos surprised you the most? Comment Below!
