Mining Jobs TV Episode 3 - Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs

MINING JOBS TV Episode 3: Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to Episode 3 of Mining Jobs TV. Hi my name is Matt and I will be speaking to you today about unskilled and entry level jobs in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. You may have probably heard the stories about a friend of a friend who is earning over $100,000 a year on a mine somewhere in Western Australia or Queensland and wondered how you could get a mining job too. Entry level or unskilled jobs, like trade assistants or plant operators are hard to get now as every man and his dog are applying for them. The best way to get these jobs would be to move out to the little mining towns and live there and register with all the labour hire companies, there are hundreds of them. Trades people like fitters, welders, boilermakers and electricians still have a fairly good chance of picking up work on mining sites. If you don't have a trade, doing a rigging or scaffolding course would give you a good chance at getting a job, the courses are only about 4 weeks long, but they are fairly expensive. Other unskilled or basic jobs available include cleaners, laundry workers and kitchen hands which is not difficult if you have hospitality training and experience. Talking to people who are currently working on mining sites can be a big help, especially if you have no previous experience or qualifications. It would be even better if you could get in contact with expats from your own country who are working on mining sites. They can let you know who to call and what you need to do. If you are inexperienced and unqualified you need to be fit and ready for physical labour. The work will be very repetitive and routine based with long 12 hour days, so you really need to be mentally prepared, as well as physically. Some mines will have a very high turnover of workers. This is because many people go to work on the mines not knowing what to expect. Because there can be such a high turnover, you may not start earning big money straight away, although your wages won't be small either. Once you've proved yourself to be a reliable worker, your wages should increase. Most mining companies will run police checks, as well as drug and alcohol tests. Even though there are wet mess areas on-site where workers can unwind and drink alcohol, they do have to drink in moderation and be fit-for-work before their shift starts Shutdowns are exactly what the name suggests. Every now and then mining sites need to shut down for upgrades, maintenance or repairs and they usually hire people temporarily to work during shut downs. A lot of the work is unskilled and doesn't last very long, so it's great for backpackers who want to keep on travelling and don't want to make a full-time commitment. It's also a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable on-site experience. To do certain mining jobs you will need to get licences and training, or 'tickets' as they are more commonly known. There are lots of different types of tickets depending on what type of work you're going to do. Some tickets can be very expensive and mines in different states require different tickets, so you really need to do your research before you start spending money on courses. Don't think that just because you're female that the mining companies and recruiters won't consider you. The mining industry in Australia is becoming increasingly gender neutral. It's not just cooking and cleaning jobs either on offer for women either; more and more women are working on Australian mining sites, and in some cases, companies even prefer women for certain jobs. For example, a popular job for women on mining sites is driving a dump truck because research has shown that women are easier on the multi-million dollar equipment yet still get the job done. It's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted via phone on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. Mining in Australia is a significant primary industry and major contributor to the Australian economy with many different ores and minerals are mined throughout the country. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. As you are probably aware mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. A talented Resume Writer will be skilled in selling your skills and wording the document in a way that includes all important key words. Many Australians want to know what type of entry level jobs are available in the mining industry that don't require a trade qualification. Both men and women are sought after by mining companies offering jobs such as Cleaner, Utilities, Trades Assistant, Service Crew, Catering, Kitchen Hand, Utilities and Laundry Work. Some of these jobs will require previous experience in areas such as cleaning, catering and hospitality but don't necessarily require previous experience working on mine sites. The main skills and attributes the mining companies are looking for include: - An understanding and commitment to workplace safety - Willingness to travel or work away from home for extended periods - Ability to complete additional courses or training - Strong work ethic and willingness to work 12 hour shifts - Flexible and adaptable approach to work - Capacity to work unsupervised and as part of a team - Punctual, reliable - High level of physical health and fitness - Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as mine sites are focused on a high level of safety and you cannot be under the influence of these substances when working on site You may be wondering, how do I find out about these jobs? Mining jobs are all advertised on the careers pages of the major mining companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto and the Compass Group. You can find the companies through Google Search or email us and we will happily provide an up to date list for you. Mining jobs are also advertised on sites such as seek.com.au which is the main job search site in Australia. You can find the jobs by searching under the mining industry section and by typing key words such Dump Truck which will display all the current jobs available relating to dump truck driving. I hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 2 where I will provide an insight into mining jobs available and where to find them. 15,300 abandoned mines in QLD - Tax payers problem

06:23
big mining companies, like Rio Tinto, are cutting corners when it comes to the closing down of their hazardous mines. As a result of this, Queensland now has some 15,300 registered abandoned mines, sitting there. Which will now be the Queensland taxpayers responsibility to clean up, due to coal and mining companies finding ways to avoid and delay their land rehabilitation responsibilities. Level 1 Emergency 2017 - Broadmeadow Coal Mine

03:00
The 2017 level 1 mine emergency was conducted at Broadmeadow mine, about 30km north-east of Moranbah in Central Queensland. All Queensland underground coal mines must run annual simulations to test their readiness for emergencies. In addition to their own exercises, each year one mine hosts the state's level 1 emergency exercise. These exercises have been held annually since 1998 and are monitored by assessors from the Queensland, New South Wales and international coal mining community.

Mining Jobs TV Episode 2 - Mining Career Opportunities

05:19
MINING JOBS TV Episode 2: Mining Career Opportunities Welcome to the second episode of Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and I will be talking about career opportunities that are available in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. We understand that many people these days are looking at getting ahead financially and seeking career changes - for that reason mining is a great opportunity for many people, regardless of your skills and experience. You could be forgiven for thinking that mining is a fairly specialised profession and that to get a job in a mine, you need to have worked in one before. That may sometimes be the case, but as you'll soon discover, not always. The reality is that across the board, there are probably just as many jobs that DON'T require experience as those that do. Obviously, there are some positions that require certain levels of experience or qualifications that you may not possess. For example, you can't go from being a builder's labourer to a Principal Mine Geologist overnight. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be expected to progress from working in an accountant's office one day, to setting the explosives in an open cut coal mine the next. Keep in mind that the demand for people, both skilled and unskilled is huge, and opportunities exist across all levels. It is in every respect a jobseekers' market. You just need to know what you're looking for, and more importantly, how to look for it. In the last year, mining and resources jobs in Australia grew by an impressive 13% - a figure unmatched by any other job sector. By location, jobs have grown by 5% in Western Australia, 21% in Queensland and a whopping 42% in New South Wales. Simple mathematics will tell you that there are just not enough qualified or experienced people to fill those numbers. If you want to work in resources, it pays to be resourceful. A great way to start is by looking for jobs in mining that relate somehow to what you're doing now -- anything from cleaning to hospitality or admin people have all got skills the mining companies are looking for. The Seek.com.au website will actually help you do it. You start by selecting 'Mining, Resources & Energy' in the Classification box and then you can drill down from there, looking at current jobs that appear for your perusal. You will see that there are many skills and qualifications that are very transferrable from other industries to mining. Mines need engineers, plumbers, electricians, builders, boilermakers, welders, mechanics, IT personnel, HR people, medical staff, logistics experts, heavy vehicle drivers to name just a few. Australian mining companies employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. But what if you don't have any skills or experience that relate to the mining industry? Fear not - there are still loads of entry level mining for you to choose from and you'll find many of them on the SEEK website. You'll soon discover that mines need a whole host of people like drillers' offsiders, administrative assistants, cooks and catering staff, cleaners and maintenance staff, childcare workers and general labourers. And many of these positions require no experience whatsoever. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, flexibility and a willingness to work. As you have probably heard, mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. I enjoyed talking to you today about mining jobs and hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 3 where I will provide an insight into unskilled and entry level mining jobs. If you aren't already signed up to receive the Mining Jobs episodes, fill out your name and email address in the box at the bottom right hand side of our website at miningjobs.tv or email us at [email protected] Thanks for watching and see you next time.

Mt. Moss Mining

01:01
Mt Moss Mine is the largest magnetite deposit on Australia's east coast. The mine is situated in the old Ewan mining field, 110km west of Townsville in North Queensland, which saw pioneer Australians explore and mine rich copper and tin in the area from 1890 until the 1930's. Since 1958, various international mining companies including BHP and MIM have explored the area for copper, lead, zinc and tin mineralisation. In 2005 Curtain Bros bought from Jervois Mining NL (a small, publically listed exploration company) mining lease ML10171 and set up a subsidiary company called Mt Moss Mining. From acquisition, Curtain Bros commenced the construction of site workshop facilities, offices, laboratory, camp and accommodation facilities as well as 50 km of roads to a standard suitable to haul large tonnages of iron ore product. During the construction phase, over 30,000 meters of combined percussion chip and diamond core drilling was completed to delineate a magnetite iron ore resource in excess of 20Mt. The potential for significant additional resources containing copper and zinc credits is very high. Mining commenced from the Willett's Knob, stage 1 pit in 2007. A stage 2 pit cutback commenced in November 2007 and was completed in early December 2008 to a depth of approximately 70 meters. Mount Moss Mining is processing stockpiled magnetite ore through two separate benification circuits to produce two saleable product streams. The mine employs over 75 personnel working across all mining areas including mobile and fixed plant operators, and mechanical and electrical trades, geology, mines engineering, metallurgy, administration, catering and housekeeping.

Level 1 Emergency Exercise 2015 - North Goonyella Coal Mine

05:02
This video demonstrates how a level 1 emergency exercise provides an opportunity to test a mine’s emergency preparedness through annual simulated emergency exercises. These exercises provide the opportunity for mines and workers to gain experience in an emergency situation and for mines to learn how to improve their safety systems. Find out more information about emergency exercises and download the reports at: https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/queensland-level-1-mine-emergency-exercise-reports The requirements for conducting mine emergency exercises are set out in Recognised Standard 8. Download the standard and reports of recent exercises: https://www.dnrm.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/240374/recognised-standard-08.pdf We hope there is never a need to use them, however all mines should ensure emergency activation numbers are readily available and early reporting is encouraged. 🇺🇸 We Are Still Here: A Story from Native Alaska l Al Jazeera Correspondent

47:23
Every summer, Amira Abujbara boards a nine-seater plane at a tiny air taxi office. It is the same plane, with the same pilot, that she has flown in almost every year of her childhood. The 50-minute flight will take her over a snowy mountain range, a volcano and an elaborate tundra of blueberries and mushrooms, tea leaves and caribou moss, wildflowers and spider webs. She is heading to her mother’s childhood home and the place where she spends her summers – the remote Alaskan village of Iliamna. Without any roads connecting it to the outside world, this is her only way of going ‘home’. Iliamna, which is an Athabascan word meaning “big ice” or “big lake” sits on the shore of the lake that shares its name. The largest in Alaska, it spans more than 2,500 square kilometres, is pure enough to drink from and is home to the biggest sockeye salmon run in the world. Iliamna shares a post office, school, airport, medical clinic and two small stores with the neighbouring village, Newhalen. Together, they have fewer than 300 residents. It is a far cry from her father’s home country, Qatar, where Amira spends the rest of the year. Her father is Qatari and her mother is Dena’ina - a subset of the Athabascan Alaska Natives. Amira was born in Alaska and is registered as an Alaska Native. When her father married her mother he promised her parents that they would return regularly and so Amira and her sister spent their summers in Iliamna. Their grandmother ran a bed and breakfast for fishermen, so she would help make the beds, clean and prepare the meals for her guests. She learned how to subsistence fish – catching, smoking, brining and canning salmon during the summer months to store for the rest of the year. For the villagers, their home is a beautiful and fruitful land, but it is also a place of incredible hardships. Tiny villages are dwarfed by the vast wilderness that surrounds them, and while the region is rich in natural resources, many Alaska Natives struggle to remain above the poverty line. According to the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, over any five-year period between 1993 and 2013, an average of 11 percent of the state’s rural population moved into urban areas. Those aged 18 to 24 are the most likely to leave. But life in the city can be overwhelming for those used to the safety net of a tight-knit rural community. Then there are the alcohol and substance abuse rates: in Alaska, age-adjusted rates of alcohol-induced deaths are 71.4 per 100,000 for Alaska Natives and 12.1 for whites. Suicide rates for Alaska Natives are almost four times the national average, and Alaska Natives are far more likely to succumb to each of the state’s leading causes of death – cancer, heart disease and unintentional injury – than their white counterparts. In Alaska, Native children are nearly three times as likely as white children to die before their fifth birthday. The situation Alaska Natives face can, perhaps, best be summarised by a note in the minutes of a meeting of Newhalen residents. In a list of wishes for the community’s future, one states simply: “To still be here.” But why is this community so at risk and will a proposed gold and copper mine, located close to the villages, endanger it further still? Residents know it offers the promise of jobs, but there are fears it could ruin the salmon run, and with it, their way of life. We Are Still Here tells the story of a community fighting to preserve its culture and its connection to the land. - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/ #AlJazeeraEnglish #AlJazeeraCorrespondent #NativeAlaska

Training Entrepreneurs in Developing Countries

02:54
https://www.thegrommet.com/the-adventure-project Providing job training to a person in a developing country makes a positive difference for that individual and their family. But The Adventure Project goes a step further—equipping men and women with skills to not just earn a living, but also to benefit their greater community. Working with local organizations to recruit potential entrepreneurs, TAP focuses on solving problems with a wider impact. Entrepreneurs have learned to build efficient stoves that use less charcoal—which reduces cooking costs and benefits the environment. They’ve become health care agents selling basic medicines at affordable prices. They’ve learned irrigation to help their neighbors farm and harvest food. And they’ve been trained to fix and maintain wells so that locals have access to clean water. In six years, TAP has created 1,000 jobs and improved the everyday lives of over one million people. With transformative jobs that add venture capital, TAP’s exponentially good model inspired us to tell their story.
