11 Most Massive Mines in the World

10:20
From the worlds largest gold mine found on the top of a mountain to the largest diamond mine in the world here are the most massive mines in the world! Subscribe to American EYE! 5.. Asbestos Mine, Canada Also known as the Jeffrey Mine, it’s located in Asbestos, Quebec and it was in operation until 2012. It’s a whopping 2 kilometers wide and 370 meters deep! Check out this thing on google maps and you can tell how completely massive this thing is! It’s the by far the largest asbestos mine in the world. For a long period of time, people would use this mineral to put into their walls and keep their homes from catching on fire! But recently there’s been a link with asbestos and a disease called mesothelioma, which is a lung condition. This is a toxic substance that people should avoid, so obviously this large mine went out of business. The lake at the bottom might look like an inviting blue, but you can bet your bottom dollar, it’s highly toxic! The small town that grew with the thriving asbestos industry feels like they’ve kind of lost their identity once the mine was forced to close, but people do still live there. 4. Mcarthur River Uranium Mine In case you were wondering which mine produces the most uranium in the world, that would be of course the Mcarthur River uranium mine in Saskatchewan Canada. This huge deposit was found in 1988 and finally a mining operation took place in 1997, when it began producing what’s known as Yellowcake. It’s not the kind of yellow cake you’d eat with your grandparents. This stuff has a horrific odor and basically what it is, is concentrated uranium powder which can then be used for powering nuclear reactors. We imagine this powdery substance is quite difficult to get ahold of. There aren’t a ton of photos of this place but, it does produce about 13 percent of the global uranium production across the globe. 3. Diavik Diamond Mine In case you thought it was Africa who had all the massive diamond mines, think again! The Diavik Diamond mine, found in the the northwest territories of Canada is one of the largest producers of diamonds in the Northern hemisphere and this place is pretty crazy! They annually produce 7 million carats of diamonds each year and you better believe it’s not easy to get here. The Diavik mine is found north of the arctic circle and it’s definitely cold! This photo here shows the subarctic landscapes that surround the diamond mine. You thought getting to work in the morning was tough for you? Imagine trying to get to work here! Just recently in 2015, this diamond produced what was known as the Diavik Foxfire 187.7 which is one of the largest rough gem quality diamonds ever produced. 2. Siberian Diamond Mine Also known as the Mirny Mine, The USSR began searching for ways to make to make themselves a more economical stable and independent union. In 1955 the Soviets discovered large diamond deposits at this site in the far away lands of Siberia and many people got to work very quickly in order to help bring wealth to the union. After about 20 years of operations, they finally decided that At one point this mine produced 10 million carats of diamonds a year and reaches a max depth of 524 meters or around 1700 feet making it the 2nd largest excavated hole in the world. The mine is so deep, airspace is closed over the hole due to helicopter crashes caused from the downward flow of air. The construction of this in the frigid conditions of Siberia must have been grueling and downright cruel. Sources state that the machinery used at this mine had to be covered at night or it would freeze Are the diamonds worth freezing to death?! It’s unoperational today but Some claim that there’s still a bunch of diamonds in this mine and the whole thing could be worth about 12 Billion dollars. It’s possible that controlling this diamond is mine is crucial to controlling the price of diamonds across the world. Bingham Copper Mine The bingham copper mine located near Salt Lake City Utah is home to the biggest pit in the world and it’s been in operation since 1903. It’s about 2.5 miles wide and if it were a stadium, it would be able to fit an estimated 9.5 million people. It keeps getting bigger and bigger too! Diligent workers can move about 250,000 tons of rock each day and it’s even become a tourist attraction in recent years before a massive landslide took place. Some claim that this was the biggest non volcanic landslide to take place in North American modern history. This photo we see here shows you the aftermath of this massive landslide and Bingham Copper mine and it makes you wonder how safe some of the conditions at these mines truly are. The landslides were so massive, that they actually triggered a few small earthquakes! Experts estimated that 165 tons of earth slide down from the top of the mine all the way to the bottom.

OPEN-PIT COAL MINING COVERAGE AT JUNNAR DEO IN MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA !!!!

00:52
A coverage of Open-pit mining, open-cut mining or opencast mining at Junnar Deo in Madhya Pradesh. Open-pit mining, Open-cut mining or Opencast mining is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth by their removal from an open pit or borrow. Open-pit mines are used when deposits of commercially useful minerals or rock are found near the surface; that is, where the overburden (surface material covering the valuable deposit) is relatively thin or the material of interest is structurally unsuitable for tunneling (as would be the case for sand, cinder, and gravel). For minerals that occur deep below the surface - where the overburden is thick or the mineral occurs as veins in hard rock - underground mining methods extract the valued material. Open-pit mines that produce building materials and dimension stone are commonly referred to as quarries. Open-pit mines are typically enlarged until either the mineral resource is exhausted, or an increasing ratio of overburden to ore makes further mining uneconomic. When this occurs, the exhausted mines are sometimes converted to landfills for disposal of solid wastes. However, some form of water control is usually required to keep the mine pit from becoming a lake, if the mine is situated in a climate of considerable precipitation or if any layers of the pit forming the mine border productive aquifers. According to Hasina Karbith, a charity worker for Indian NGO Impulse, there are over 70,000 underage children working just in the mines of Meghalaya. The charity is trying to fight what they say is a rampant illegal industry of trafficking from Nepal and child labour in the mines. "We wrote more than 60 letters to the government with the findings and still we didn't get any response. I still remember the day when the government wrote back to us and said, 'you have to present the names of the 70,000 children. More than 50 workers die in Coal mine collapse in Godda, Jharkhand

06:07
At least 50 miners got buried under tons of rubble in a coal mine collapse at the Lalmatia open-cast coalfields owned by Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) in Godda. Rescuers dug out 12 bodies even as other miners remained trapped under the debris. Officials said all those who have been found dead so far were contractual workers. The miners were hired by Mahalaxmi Engineering Company, a Gujarat-based company sub-leased to carry out excavation of coal mines. The Lalmatia coal mine, which became operational in 1981, comes under the ECL's Rajmahal project. The officials said efforts were on to identify the dead and trapped miners. They added that most of the miners belonged to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Jharkhand chief secretary Rajbala Verma and DGP DK Pandey rushed to the site as soon as news of the mine collapse reached the state capital. Verma said, "We will not spare anyone found guilty of negligence." Following Verma's directives, an FIR was filed against the company that had hired the miners. coal mine disaster flood in chasnalla kk gate dhanbad

05:57
The Chasnalla mining disaster was a disaster that happened on 27 December 1975 in a coal mine in Chasnalla near Dhanbad in the Indian state of Jharkhand. An explosion in the mine followed by flooding killed 372 miners.[3] When a roof of coal caved in, 7 million imperial gallons (32,000 m3) of water per minute flooded into the mine.[citation needed] The miners were trapped under a mountain of debris and drowned when the water surged into the mine. The Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO), which owned the mine, said it conformed to international standards.[4] The film Kaala Patthar depicts the tragedy.[2] Shaheed Smarak was built in the memory of the victims.[5] Mining operations can occur during a long period of time (from several years to several decades) and in order to keep the mining operations running, water has to be constantly removed from the mine sites when needed.[1] After the mine is closed, which happens when its operational life ends, the maintenance systems stop. Also, the dewatering systems cease to operate. Without any kind of work towards dewatering, the closed mines tend to get flooded with surface and groundwaters in the lower levels and mined spaces, if there is not a drainage adit present. The flooding process of an open-pit or underground mine can take from a several months period to more than a decade. The time it takes for a mine to get flooded depends on factors such as quantity of open space in the mine, availability of infiltration water and on the nature of flooding - it can be uncontrolled, controlled or monitored.[2]

Underground coal mine by Indian minerology

09:29
Underground coal mine :- Most coal seams are too deep underground for opencast mining and require underground mining, a method that currently accounts for about 60 percent of world coal production.[5] In deep mining, the room and pillar or bord and pillar method progresses along the seam, while pillars and timber are left standing to support the mine roof. Once room and pillar mines have been developed to a stopping point (limited by geology, ventilation, or economics), a supplementary version of room and pillar mining, termed second mining or retreat mining, is commonly started. Miners remove the coal in the pillars, thereby recovering as much coal from the coal seam as possible. A work area involved in pillar extraction is called a pillar section. Modern pillar sections use remote-controlled equipment, including large hydraulic mobile roof-supports, which can prevent cave-ins until the miners and their equipment have left a work area. The mobile roof supports are similar to a large dining-room table, but with hydraulic jacks for legs. After the large pillars of coal have been mined away, the mobile roof support's legs shorten and it is withdrawn to a safe area. The mine roof typically collapses once the mobile roof supports leave an area.

India's Coal Rush: A Town on Fire

13:59
Jharia lies at the heart of India's largest coal belt, within the north-east state of Jharkhand. The area produces almost all of the country's high-quality coking coal required in the production of steel as well as in thermo-electricity plants. Yet the vast open cast mines that stretch through these lands lie on top of underground fires that have been burning for over a century. Recent mining expansions have provoked these flames causing over 70 open fires to erupt along the earth's surface, spewing noxious gases and destroying the land. Those hardest hit are local villagers and workers in towns such as Jharia - forced to endure poisonous air, dangerous fires and unbearable heat. Envrionmental activists have highlighted how the state-run coal mining BCCL firm has deliberately exacerbated the open fires, so as to justify the eviction of locals due to safety risks, and thereby clear the areas of coal-rich land suited for their expansion. The nearby town of Dhanbad is particularly notorious for its 'coal mafia' - an informal name given to the corrupt mechanics behind India's coal trade - one mired by greed and exploitation. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to double state-produced coal by 2020 in the hopes of meeting India's rapidly rising energy demands. Yet, in the setting of global climate change and emission responsibilities, coal remains one of the dirtiest forms of energy production. Set in the bleak and naturally striking scenery of Jharia, this story looks into the poverty-stricken, remote and forgotten lives of people at the mercy of corporations and governed by coal. This is the story of those buried beneath Indias billion dollar coal operations - the dirty end of a dirty business. Please watch: "Gym Girl WorkOut | #uniquevideos | by unique videos" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3-wDnHLSg4 --~-- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coal mining in India began in 1774 when John Sumner and Suetonius Grant Heatly of the East India Company commenced commercial exploitation in the Raniganj Coalfield along the Western bank of Damodar river. As on 31 March 2015, India had estimated coal reserves of 306.6 billion metric tons (338.0 billion short tons), the fifth largest coal reserves in the world. India is the fourth largest producer of coal in the world, producing 536.5 million metric tons (591.4 million short tons) in 2014. Due to high demand and poor average quality, India is forced to import high quality coal to meet the requirements of steel plants. India's coal imports have risen from 43.08 million metric tons (0.04749 billion short tons) in 2006-07 to 199.88 million metric tons (0.22033 billion short tons) in 2015-16. India's coal exports rose from 1.55 million metric tons (1.71 million short tons) in 2006-07 to 2.45 million metric tons (2.70 million short tons) in 2009-10, but subsequently declined to 1.25 million metric tons (1.38 million short tons) in 2015-16. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ mine, pit, coal, travel log, high speed, trucks, komatsu, digging, mining, india, coal mine in india, digger, dumptruck, coal mining (industry), opencast coal mine in india, cat, dozer, open cast mine in hindi, open cast coal mine in hindi, open cast coal mine, glacial deposits, open-pit mining, dirt, noise, machine, bucket, face shovel, overburden, operator, tech opencast coal mine in india, coal mine, opencast, offroading, fossil, fuel, energy, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me : #uniquevideos 1) Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/sushil.pandey.5036 2) Twitter : https://twitter.com/dashing_man72 3) Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/sushilpandey3422/ 4) Google plus : http://google.com/+UniqueVideos1980 5) Ok.ru : https://www.ok.ru/profile/579367515814/statuses #uniquevideos unique videos

India to Open Up Commercial Coal Mining to Private Companies

00:55
For the first time in four decades ,India is getting ready to open up commercial coal mining to private companies, with the aim of shifting the world's third-biggest coal importer toward energy self-sufficiency. The country's top coal bureaucrat, told Reuters on Friday the government has identified mines it plans to auction, and is now finalizing other terms such as eligibility criteria for companies to take part and whether and how to set up revenue sharing. India has an ambitious plan to double its coal production to 1.5 billion tonnes (about 1.63 U.S. tons) a year by 2020, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's push to bring power to 300 million people who live without electricity, and give a boost to manufacturing. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/4cc27045/sc/13/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Cbusiness0Cenergy0Cdeveloped0Ecountries0Eturn0Ecoal0Eindia0Efires0Eproduction0En493156/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Business using http://wochit.com

🇮🇳 India's Coal Rush | 101 East

25:11
India is hungry for energy. Over 173 power plants, all of them coal-fired, will be built to power the nation's high-tech industries and booming cities. This is accelerating an ongoing “coal rush” which has put our dirtiest fossil fuel at the heart of India’s breakneck growth, and could soon make a single state, Andhra Pradesh, one of the world’s top 20 carbon emitters. But not everyone is convinced that this boom is a blessing. Physicist and businessman, Asoke Agarwal believes that India is heading for disaster: "It is time that we think of a more austere way of living. That was what India was famous for earlier. Today we have just aped the West. The West has gone at a speed at which they are destroying themselves, and we are following them. So it is high time that we realise that there is something drastically wrong with our economy." On 101 East, filmmaker Orlando de Guzman takes a dark journey through the coal belt of Jharkhand and West Bengal, to look at the winners and losers of this booming industry.
