Amazing Open Pits Mine
Open-pit mining, open-cut mining or opencast mining is a surface mining technique of extracting rock or minerals from the earth by their removal from an open pit or borrow. This form of mining differs from extractive methods that require tunneling into the earth such as long wall mining. Open-pit mines are used when deposits of commercially useful minerals or rock are found near the surface; that is, where the overburden (surface material covering the valuable deposit) is relatively thin or the material of interest is structurally unsuitable for tunneling (as would be the case for sand, cinder, and gravel). For minerals that occur deep below the surface - where the overburden is thick or the mineral occurs as veins in hard rock - underground mining methods extract the valued material. Open-pit mines that produce building materials and dimension stone are commonly referred to as quarries. Open-pit mines are typically enlarged until either the mineral resource is exhausted, or an increasing ratio of overburden to ore makes further mining uneconomic. When this occurs, the exhausted mines are sometimes converted to landfills for disposal of solid wastes. However, some form of water control is usually required to keep the mine pit from becoming a lake, if the mine is situated in a climate of considerable precipitation or if any layers of the pit forming the mine border productive aquifers.

They actively searched for Copper, gold, silver and molybdenum. The name comes from the local Indian word for the red minerals they found in the ground. The Spanish misspelled the word which sounded similar to the Spanish word for garlic. I was told there is no mining going on at the present time. Geological Face Mapping in Open Pit Mines using DJI Phantom 4 Pro UAV
Hi, all! What you see; A video that has been created with Quick Terrain Modeller and edited with Adobe Premiere. A point cloud that's been created by a FULLY AUTOMATED terrain following flight using the Litchi app for geological Face Mapping purposes. The specific bank shown in the video was captured with a DJI P4P, which was moving in parallel with the bank, -following the banks' crest- constantly at 60m above existing ground and at a certain angle so the entire bank can be captured at all time, avoiding the Bucket Wheel Excavator. Result is a point cloud with no blank spots so as the face mapping of the slope can be completed flawlessly. The specific flight mission took place on 07:45am on a cloudy sky while everything was soaking wet after rain showers -in the worst possible conditions that is- in order to emphasise on the dynamics of the end product. What's been used during the entire workflow; - Drone : DJI Phantom 4 PRO (www.dji.com) - Photogrammetric software : Agisoft Photoscan Pro (www.agisoft.com) - Flight App : Litchi (https://flylitchi.com) - CAD Software : Autodesk Civil 3D (www.autodesk.com) - Microsoft Excel (www.microsoft.com) - Cadtools (www.glamsen.se) - Virtual Surveyor (www.virtual-surveyor.com) - Point Cloud Software : Quick Terrain Modeller (appliedimagery.com) - Video Creation software : Adobe Premiere - Soundtrack : Beastie Boyz - Namaste (Album: The In Sound From Way Out!) Song for Rosemont
Please sign petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/the-white-house-and-the-u-s-army-corps-of-engineers-protect-the-santa-rita-mountains-in-az-from-the-proposed-rosemont-mine Original song and video in an effort to bring awareness of the beauty that is at risk with allowing an open pit mine to devastate the entire Rosemont region. Composed and performed by James Glinski with collaboration by Guy Gabriel on lead vocals Ruben Ruiz on lead guitar and commentary by Keith Willmarth: An Antiquated Law that Needs Revision A cloak of futility hangs over efforts to draw attention to the many undeniable adverse impacts of the proposed Rosemont Mine. - despite an undeniably strong public sentiment in opposition to the mine. A cloak which makes reason itself seem irrelevant. This cloak is the Mining Act of 1872, which grants an absolute right to mine on public lands. Although the mine would be on public land, there is no requirement to weigh net impacts to the public versus the benefit to a single company. All the public comments on the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed mine apply not to the merits of the project itself, but to the adequacy of the EIS. Yet a ray of hope shines, that Rosemont Camp will remain the idyllic place that it is, for a reason beyond the pale of the mining law. Fortunately, the law does not allow mine developers to desecrate adjacent lands. For right across the road from the proposed mine lies Cienega Creek, one of the last relatively intact perennial streams in the Sonoran Desert. Parts of it have been designated National and Pima County preserve areas. The EPA has exercised its power to prevent issuance of a Clean Water Permit from the Army Corps of Engineers, on the grounds that the mine pit would draw water away from Cienega Creek. This points up the absurdity of the Mining Act of 1872. Despite the many devastating impacts that the mine would indisputably have at the mine site, it's only because of an impact beyond the mine site that the mine is likely to be denied permission to exist. Yet let us not assume that there will be no Rosemont Mine. If Rosemont should somehow negotiate their way to the Clean Water Permit, the only thing still able to prevent the start of mining operations might be a general public outcry. We still have until Valentines Day to submit objections to the mine. Let's work with all our heart to save this natural gem, so that we can celebrate the triumph of heart over dollars, come Valentine's day. Those who have previously entered comments into the record regarding the Rosemont mine proposal are entitled to file objections based on their original comments. For detailed instructions, see: http://www.rosemonteis.us/ . Those not eligible to comment can still join us in the effort to protect the lands that would be degraded by the mine. What is UNDERGROUND MINE VENTILATION? What does UNDERGROUND MINE VENTILATION mean? UNDERGROUND MINE VENTILATION meaning - UNDERGROUND MINE VENTILATION definition - UNDERGROUND MINE VENTILATION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Underground mine ventilation provides a flow of air to the underground workings of a mine of sufficient volume to dilute and remove dust and noxious gases (typically NOx, SO2, methane, CO2 and CO) and to regulate temperature. The source of these gases are equipment that runs on diesel engines, blasting with explosives, and the orebody itself. The largest component of the operating cost for mine ventilation is electricity to power the ventilation fans, which may account for one third of a typical underground mine's entire electrical power cost. Flow-through ventilation is the main ventilation circuit for the mine. Air enters the mine from surface via a shaft, ventilation raise or adit. The air is distributed through the mine via internal ventilation raises and ramps, and flows are controlled by regulators and permanently mounted ventilation fans. An auxiliary ventilation system takes air from the flow-through system and distributes it to the mine workings via temporarily mounted ventilation fans, venturies and disposable fabric or steel ducting. Auxiliary fan and duct systems may be either forcing systems, where fresh air is pushed into mine headings, or exhausting systems that draw out contaminated air. Sufficient volume of air is required for proper ventilation. A bulk of electric power is required for driving fans. By installing variable speed control air quantity can be optimized hence the power. at every place in the mine where persons are required to work or pass, the air does not contain less than 19% of oxygen or more than 0.5% of carbon dioxide or any noxious gas in quantity likely to affect the health of any person; the percentage of inflammable gas does not exceed 0.75% in the general body of the return air of any ventilating district and 1.25% in any place in the mine. The volume (expressed in cubic feet per minute or cubic meters per second) of air required to ventilate an underground mine is determined by mining engineers based on a wide variety of parameters. In most countries minimum requirements are outlined by law, regulation or standards. However, in some developing countries the mandated ventilation requirement may be insufficient, and the mining company may have to increase the ventilation flow, in particular where ventilation may be required to cool the ambient temperature in a deep hot mine, however auto-compression must also be taken into account. as per CMR 130-2-(i) in every ventilating district, not less than six cubic metres per minute of air per personemployed in the district on the largest shift or not less than 2.5 cubic metres per minute of air per daily tonne output whichever is larger, passes along the last ventilation connection in the district which means the inbye-most gallery in the district along which the air passes. In temperate climates ventilation air may need to be heated during winter months. This will make the working environment more hospitable for miners, and prevent freezing of workings, in particular water pipes. In Arctic mines where the mining horizon is above the permafrost heating may not take place to prevent melting the permafrost. "Cold mines" such as Raglan Mine and Nanisivik Mine are designed to operate below 0°C. the wet bulb temperature in any working place does not exceed 33.5°C and where the wet bulb temperature exceeds 30.5°C arrangements are made to ventilate the same with a current of air moving at a speed of not less than one metre per second.

Mining for Emeralds in Brazil by GIA
http://gia.edu/gem-encyclopedia Mining for Emeralds in Brazil by GIA. Emerald gemstone has many special qualities. From Sao Paolo, Brazil, Sergio Martins discusses the emerald gemstone history, industry and how sourcing this precious stone is performed in Brazilian mines. He explains the different types of Brazilian mining systems that exist at different locations throughout the country. The Belmont mine has a large area and conducts open pit mining on a large scale. They have consistently produced this precious gemstone for 30 years. Sergio also discusses the Nova Era mine, different from the other emerald mines because it belongs to over 140 people. Located in the area of Garimpeiro, emerald mining in this region involves miners making shafts and looking for the vein that leads to a large concentration of emerald, a “pocket”. Mining can take up to few years before any emerald stones are discovered, but once found, they can produce up to 10 million dollars worth of emeralds in one pocket.
