British power plants have broken a new record for the longest continuous coal-free streak since the distant era of the Industrial Revolution. It's been over six days (and counting) since the UK relied upon coal-burning for electricity generation: establishing a modern record of 159+ continuous hours without coal, eclipsing a previous-best 90-hour benchmark set last month. Going without using coal power underlined the UK's progress in quitting its dirtiest fuel, but where next for the fossil fuel phase out? Coal use in Britain has dropped dramatically. At the same time wind is on the rise rising faster in 2017 than any other energy source and now making up 15% of all British electricity. According to Gizmodo.com, Britain Just Went a Week Without Coal For the First Time in 137 Years. National Grid, the electric company that provides power for Britain, announced the milestone on Tuesday in a tweet. The milestone is largely symbolic, but reflects how the world can increasingly operate without the dirtiest fossil fuel. According to Gizmodo, the milestone is a reminder that coal is in its death throes, at least in a growing number of developed countries. The UK still gets a little less than 10 percent of its power from coal. https://earther.gizmodo.com/britain-just-went-a-week-without-coal-for-the-first-tim-1834609354 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Vote It using http://wochit.com

The UK is the first country to propose an end date to using coal. That date is 2025. On 21 April 2017, the UK had its first day without power generated from coal. The country didn’t grind to a halt. The UK has seen the future, and it isn’t coal. Visit the UK pavilion at Astana Expo 2017 and find out how a range of energy sources such as offshore wind and solar power are planned for the UK to create a low-carbon energy mix.
